Itv player
Freesat promised us that I.T.V Player would be available in `early 2011`. As we are now half way through 2011 and still no I.T.V Player, anyone got any idea why the delay and when is it likely to come?

Re: Itv player
It has been in Beta since January and if you have a Humax HD box you may still be able to access the Beta test and give it a whirl (it may possibly work on some other Freesat boxes also).
Have a look at this post on joinfreesat.co.uk for instructions on how to access the Beta. Be sure to read through the comments also, there seems to be useful additional advice in there for if the Beta player fails to load first time.

Re: Itv player
I've always wandered how the i-players on sat could work seeing as sat is of cause receive only and proabably only a limited number of transponder capacity these days on the Astra2\Eurobird sats as they are probably the heaviest used and conjested sats in Europe.

Re: Itv player
They don't use the satellite, they use a broadband internet connection. Every Freesat box has an ethernet port; you can either wire it to your router, or get a homeplug or wireless adapter to get it online.

Lol think I figured that after looking at the link . So will only ever be any real good or use if you have a decent speed and reliable connection then seeing as there is no real way to buffer before playing to stop it freezing?.

Re: Itv player
I've never tried it, so I don't know. Iplayer running on a computer is pretty good at adapting to bandwidth though. I'd hope the freest version would be similar.

As Chris says you use the i-player through your internet. I use a homeplug and have never had any problems with it at all. As I`ve said previously the i-player is better than the one virgin uses, although I`ve been told the tivo box uses the same as freesat.

Just tried it on my Goodmans freesat but the following message `this service is not currently available for this device (10002)`. Ah well worth a try I guess.

Re: Itv player
I've used the iPlayer a few times on my Humax Freesat box and it worked very well when I had VM 10Meg and also works very well now on Talk Talk.
It has two quality settings, normal and HQ, note NOT HD.
Normal is pretty low red, but HQ is close to SD broadcast quality.
When you start to watch a programme it does seem to buffer a bit, but I've never had it frizzy during playback.
Tried the ITV player beta a couple of times and also looks like it will be good, but people have been getting error messages on it the past few days.
