Help Smallworld Topview CRC-2400 1TB box

Hi can anyone tell me if Smallworlds Topfield CRC-2400 1tb box has the capability to start recording a programme and halfway through it play it from the beginning whilst its still recording as you can with a sky+ box???

Also what do i do about my cable signal as its down at anywhere between 16% and 69%, when im playing back some recordings it freezes and goes blocky, its been installed 3 days and im actually dissapointed so far. Does anyone think it could be a dodgy box as i was going to ask for a replacement one

Cheers folks

A quick google suggests you would be better off at http://www.toppy.org.uk/index.php as that site is dedicated to Topfield PVRs. (Never heard of them before)
No idea if there is a Small World cable forum site.

Ring up Smallworld about the signal, they'll have to come out and repair it if the signal quality is that low, very poor service if they installed it like that.

Re: Help Smallworld Topview CRC-2400 1TB box

A difficulty with Smallworld is that it is impossible to discuss a technical problem with a technical advisor. The Customer Advisor is quite limited in the ablility to assist beyond a routine number of possible remedies. After that, if these do not clear a fault, the customer is left in limbo. e-mails and letters generate no responses

Send a PM to Dave Durnford above your post as he is the CEO of Smallworld.

Masque Thanks for the advice and guidance however I would rather leave David Durnford Smallworld CEO devoting his time and energy towards improving the Smallworld tv service. Customer confidence and technical support should be the resopnsibility of his middle management. Further correspondence with Smallworld in Morcambe is called for.

If he is posting here and not disallowed PM's then the is no reason not to ask him as otherwise he would not come onto forums like this as he seems to be a hands on sort of guy.

Re: Help Smallworld Topview CRC-2400 1TB box

Hi. I have had this (500GB) box from Smallworld for around 1 month now. While I have generally been happy with it there are a couple of niggles. When it is swiched on you are sometimes unable to access some of the 'services' and just in the last few days it has developed the same issue as JAYJAY's. I have tried resetting to factory settings and switching off mains power but still no sucess.

Re: Help Smallworld Topview CRC-2400 1TB box

Keithy Hi. The fault on my 500GB Topfield Box is exactly the same. I have reported it three times and the only advice over the phone is to retune. I tried e-mail without any response so I wrote to Morcambe with details of the symptoms. Quote" by using the info button on the handset and a missing channel selected it can be seen that the element SD[576] does not appear". I retrieve the missing channels by scrolling from 101. The response to the letter has been a request for my Card Number and the Chip number on the back of the STB. I believe there is an inherent fault in the system which has only become apparent with the issue of the STB,s to customers. To date there has been no further contact from Smallworld Morcambe

Re: Help Smallworld Topview CRC-2400 1TB box

Hi Jackie. I have retuned today no difference, Dosent matter if you time shift or playback a previously recorded item the same problem persists, i.e. blocky unwatchable vision and patchy sound. Dont want to reformat the HDD because I'll lose all the recodrdings. Not yet reported the problem to Smallworld but I will this week.

PM the CEO if you want an answer as it is pointless just to complain about it and if I was him then it would be appreciated as he seems a hands on type of person.
