Re: Bt’s vision shake-up
There must be something better than Virgin Media.
I have two boxes one is a v+ and the other is an old type digital.
I rang them to change the old box, but they was going to charge me 40 postage and installation and 99.99 to activate.

There are always alternatives, whether they are better is a personal opinion.

Re: Bt’s vision shake-up
l think that BT vision will always struggle as it presently stands and certainly will have to change things massively to make any impact.

Re: Bt’s vision shake-up
There were some mutterings about this the other week. Basically, it involves upgrading their network to support multicast so that they don't have to pay the extraordinary carriage charges on Freeview.
It should have happenned years ago, but it should finally mean BTV will be a proper IPTV service with live channels, similar to (but probably not as good as) FiOS in the states.
The Vision box is actually quite a nice bit of kit and has the potential to be a real winner if not hamstrung by stupid requirements. I'll be watching this with interest.

Re: Bt’s vision shake-up
I just don`t get BT Vision at all. If I understand it right you get your channels through your aerial? Why not just buy a freeview box and save paying a subsription fee to BT!

Re: Bt’s vision shake-up
Read the article. It doesn't just offer Freeview:

It currently offers Freeview channels plus Sky Sports 1 & 2, sports station ESPN, on-demand programmes such as films and catch-up TV.

OK didn`t see the on demand stuff, but sky sports and ESPN can be got on Freeview so I still don`t see the point of it. Also, there`s plenty of good catch up services available on the internet (Whats on tv for example) and you can easily put this onto your tv for easier watching.

It may be possible to get them, but they are not apparently part of the service.
From http://www.freeview.co.uk/Services/Freeview2:

More programmes plus Sky Sports 1 & 2 or ESPN are available in addition to the Freeview channels from BT Vision and Top Up TV

Re: Bt’s vision shake-up
It's dead simple: BT Vision= Freeview PVR, plus optional Sky Sports1,2 & ESPN plus chargeable On Demand content delivered via broadband. Simples!

Or buy a freeview box with a card slot, with optional sky sports 1,2 and ESPN, and watch your on demand content on your pc through your tv! The only difference between your way(BT vision) and my way(Freeview) is apart from the sports channels theres no subs to pay. SO WHY GET BT VISION?

Re: Bt’s vision shake-up
I'm not trying to sell it to you! You said you didn't understand, not thought it was pointless. I don't think Vision's a bad system - you have credit that there are people out there who would not have clue 1 how to connect their laptop to their TV. Vision offers a nice addon of paid content on top of Freeview along with catch up. There's a market out there for it as it stands but it's not massive. Now add a number of pay channels (the point of this thread!) and it could become a compelling alternative. Could.

l think in the long run BT Vision will struggle to keep going as the competition is fierce with Virgin Media, Sky and Freeview all going strong and increasing their customer base strongly.

I agree mate and the more players in the market , the better the situation for the consumer.
