Splitting signal from 1 LNB to two receivers?

Hi all,

I'm trying to find something which someone advised me I need for doing the above...
Basically, I have a USB satellite box (connects to PC to play channels) and an old sky digibox (for freesat). I only have the one old sky dish and cable.
I tried a splitter but when I just connected the box to that it didn't get any signal, without even connecting the usb device as well, just the one cable from the splitter.
I was told I would need to find an 'lnb switch' as I want to be able to switch between the two devices as I've been told only one can work off the lnb at a time.
I'm having trouble finding one on ebay, can anyone point me in the right direction for what I'm searching for?

Yep, that''ll work.

The reason why two device can't share one LNB is that they are active devices, receiving both their power and a frequency switching signal from the receiver. If at any time you want to use more than one device at a time, or you get something like a Sky+ box, you'll need an LNB with multiple outputs.

That ad says it switches one LNB feed between 2 receivers, so it should work.

A lot of digiboxes need a strong signal, so a splitter won't work. The Pace 2600 can work with a very weak signal. The Thomson dsi 8210 needs a strong signal. I know because I've owned both of these boxes.

Excellent, many thanks both. The digibox is a Thomson, I'm not sure what model but that would explain why it didn't like receiving the signal through the splitter.

not quite as cheap but another option is to replace the lnb with one that has 2 outputs .... (no need for a switch) and both sat receivers can be used at the same time (and watch different channels) >>> http://www.maplin.co.uk/2-way-satellite-lnb-97020
