Dear Sky PR dept.

(mods please move if I've picked the wrong area)

[RANT]

Dear Sky PR,

I had a visit from your door-to-door salesman tonight and I was fascinated to hear.....
  • it is now illegal for me to put cables - of any kind - under my floor
  • that 512k is more than enough for someone used to 10Mb (with speed tests consistently over 9.5)
  • that I would benefit from HD channels I do not currently watch in SD
  • "Cisco ?" not heard of them sorry - you can sell our free router if you don't want it though
  • Sky will never change the package price unless VAT changes - ever ! Guaranteed
  • Sky HD will always be noticeably better quality than any other provider is or ever will be
  • Southport is the far North West not Cumbria
  • I rent the VM box, where as I'd own the Sky box - even if it failed after 12 months - but not to worry as they only have a 5% failure rate which is a modern miracle

I won't go on, the guy was pleasant enough, but normally they go away when I say I'm happy to stick with my current provider but thanks for the offer, not ignore why I don't want something and repeat "I can match Virgin and you'll get 80 HD channels soon"

I would've respected his opinion if he had enough life experience to argue the point rather than make things up. (Assuming Sky has not trained them with the above opinions ! )

Haha

On one note though, Southport is regarded as the North West to VM as well, it falls under their NW franchise area. It isnt Cumbria anyway, its Sefton.

Not surprising from a Sky rep, ive been sold the same shrift before... but any sales rep for any company could do the same. I dont think any telecomms company is blameless in this department.

Back in the days of Telewest, a field sales rep in Edinburgh was offering free turkeys with Install orders before christmas... he ended up having to fulfil those orders himself unsurprisingly!

If he'd been offering a free turkey to make up for the drop in BB that would've been different - Tho' he'd probably not heard of Bernard Matthews either

Re: Dear Sky PR dept.

to be fair its not just sky that try these Virgin did the same years ago with me when i switched to ADSL from cable when i was still living at my parents.

The person on the phone at Virgin claimed that Virgin internet would never go down for repairs and ADSL did all the time, he also stated Virgin could match the ADSL provider i was switching to and also offer me more mailboxes and also a static IP address which Virgin nor NTL has ever offered to my knowledge on residential and also claimed that customer service with NTL was better than any of the ADSL Providers.
