do we need the BBC.
1. yes
2. no
was reading the thread about BBC 3/4 may have to close.
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/64...sing-down.html
and i was wondering if we really need to pay £150 for a tv licence to keep the bbc channel's on the air.
is it not time for them to go private and show ads to finance the bbc.

Re: do we need the BBC.

Are you asking if we need the BBC, or if we need a service funded by a TV licence? The two questions are not quite the same.

Re: do we need the BBC.

I vote yes, because we need topics on CF that return every couple of months, result in a heated debate and end up with the thread closed because of bickering, name-calling and toy-throwing. How boring would it be without them?

Re: do we need the BBC.

Personally no.

I don't watch any BBC content or visit any BBC website or listen to any BBC radio. I have the tv/radio blocked on my cable/sky/freeview/freesat and their websites are in my host file.

Can't stand the BBC

Re: do we need the BBC.

i voted yes as we need a public broadcaster and we would be charged a licence fee regardless of the BBC needing funding.

I think he means topics that get people getting hot under the collar and arguing which I doubt this one will initiate.

Voted yes, as my main viewing choice is produced by the BBC. Ad free programming is vital.

Re: do we need the BBC.

Yes, we do need the BBC funded by the license fee. Forcing the BBC to take adverts would take money from all the other broadcasters, and there isn't enough to go round as it is.

Can you imagine how much they would be able to charge for a slot in the middle of Eastenders or Doctor Who?

Re: do we need the BBC.

I voted no. The BBC should go PPV, if you want it, then you pay for it. I don't want it.

there are plenty of other channels/radio/websites that are just as good if not better than the BBC. It should have been abolished years ago.

Re: do we need the BBC.

Yes we need the BBC. It's general outpuit of TV and radio programming would be sorely missed.

It has however in recent years as the internet, Digital TV and Digital radio has become available, possibly exceeded it's remit, trying to cover every niche area. There are grounds for it to be scaled back.

As to how it should be funded, that is not the title of this thread and vote, and thus is irrelevant to my answer.
