are v+ boxes of any use?
Hi this is my first post here so i hope its in the correct place, Anyway yesterday i came across 3 Virgin Media V+ boxes in a skip so rather then see them chucked out i saved them (i asked the householder first and she said they was working but she was now a sky customer and that she purchased them herself) my questions are as follows
1 how do i use these to enable freeview for my t.v do i need anything special ?
2 is there anything inside that can be salvaged Ie Hard drives etc etc
3 is there any use at all for these boxes now and do they still remain the property of virgin media?
I plugged them all in and there showing ap52 error which i understand from google searchs that this is a signal issue
any advice be great should i chuck these or what ?

Re: are v+ boxes of any use?
1 ) You can't
2) They are not the householders to give to you and should have been returned to VM.
3) See point 2 - but you could use them to charge your iphone or similar as tey have a powered usb socket
Oh, and welcome to the site

Re: are v+ boxes of any use?
I guess you could call them and see if they will pick them up / send out something to post them back in.
If I was you I'd wait and see what a VM staffer suggests (there are several on this board).
edit - check out the reply below

Re: are v+ boxes of any use?
They can not be used except on the account they were provisioned on and Virgi Media will not add any such box to another persons account either, if you see a Virgin Media van you could always ask the engineer to take them off your hands as they are Virgin Media property.

Re: are v+ boxes of any use?
Isn't it possible guys that these boxes were chucked in the skip because they all suddenly stopped working at the same time.

But surely not all V+ boxes are Vm's property, I for one bought mine or should I say paid £50 quid for it when I first subscribed to VM's services, and was under the impression this was mine to do as I like.

Nope, you paid £50 no doubt (as I did when I had virgin and a v+ box) but it was not to buy the box. It is always VM's unlike a sky box it's rented from VM.

They remain the property of Virgin Media at all times hence all engineer visits are free unlike SKY after 12 months.

Well you learn something new everyday , cheers Dilli
I've customised mine with a fresh paint job, 20 inch rims, direct port nitrous injection and its liquid cooled using the urine from dead virgins.
Ok so maybe it isn't but its just as well I hadn't messed with it so thanks

I found that the urine from dead virgins slowed down the epg but increased the recording capacity to 1TB

You better believe it , although my modding days are over for now, I'll just have to wait for my mid life crisis to kick in before I build my AC Cobra kit car.
