Re: On Digital the demise!!
Might of been more sucessful if a certain company hadn't paid for a security company to break the security on the card. Gold cards were easily obtainable and they didn't seem able to change their scrambling system.

Re: On Digital the demise!!
OD actually used the fact that there were so many hacked cards in order to sell advertising.

Re: On Digital the demise!!
It did contribute to their demise though. It caused them to massively over estimate their subscriptions from ppv sport, and, as a result, bid a silly amount of money to show footy games.

Re: On Digital the demise!!
the cost / benefit model failed anyway. Limited number of channels, expensive hardware for the number of channels, and Sky marketing a better package deal with free dish at the time.
To determine the profitability of the product they needed to do the following
1) What can I make this for?
2) What can I sell this for?
3) Will that cover ALL my expenses and provide a profit?
4) Is there actually a market for this?
5) Who are my competitors?
6) Can they undercut me?
7) Will they undercut me?
8) Is there enough unique about my product to prevent my customers leaving if I am undercut?

Re: On Digital the demise!!
When I got my first IDTV (WS CRT), I was offered a free 12 month subscription to ONdigital...everything other than Movies/Sport IIRC.
When the 12 months came to an end, they (as ITV Digital) phoned me, to get me to pay for a new subscription.
I pointed out that my 12 month subscription was free, simply for getting an IDTV, & that I had signed no contract agreeing to then start paying once the 12 months was up. I think I may have also said something like "Aren't you on the way to going bust, anyway?" too.
