BT Vision would do better if..........
Live Pay TV channels or at least as much as TalkTalk TV
Freesat version?
Exclusive content?
Just a thought really, Ofcom does not even recognise BT Vision as pay-tv service.
Since BT no longer has anything to do with BskyB, aren't they allowed now to offer full Digital TV services?
They used to have Cable TV franchises but sold them off to NTL in 2000 and leases its own property such as cabinets and ducts to Virgin Media in order for Virgin Media to operate, a lot of money just to run about 15 Analogue Channels and Broadband to Westminster North.
So at the moment they are rolling out BT Infinity wasting money once again installing more street cabinets and digging up streets, why don't they just build a proper Cable TV network like Virgin Media's to run along there phone lines, that way they would have a proper fibre optic (Fibre to Cabinet) internet service going well beyond there 40MB target plus an up to date Digital TV service.
That way we would not only have more choice in Digital TV but a choice in Cable TV providers as well as fibre optic broadband.

That would be a very very good move. Far far more channels to provide.
What would also be good is if they'd use less bandwidth of your ADSL connection.

Re: BT Vision would do better if..........
Maybe that is already the case for BT Infinity areas, remember IPTV services were originally for modern ADSL networks like France Telecom's unlike BT's copper cable network that can't handle much.
Maybe they will do something once they roll out BT Infinity because say if 3 or 4 million users joined BT Vision and it offered live TV channels like TalkTalk TV, I don't think the existing copper cable network would cope, the only reason why TalkTalk TV offers it is because it hardly has any users, Ofcom reported that it had approxiamately 65,000 subscribers as of 2009. It only covers Greater London and Stevenage exchanges but there is talk of spreading to larger cities such as Manchester.
Orange pulled out of it's ideas of offering IPTV, perhaps it was because it was loosing 188,000 customers a year meaning demand for IPTV would obviously be low.
France Telecom has been criticised of destroying the Orange brand especially in the UK, so it is likely that Orange has permanently abandoned its IPTV roll out and once the merge with T-Mobile is complete, a total rebrand will take place and the company will become a tripple player Phone,Mobile and home broadband not forgetting Mobile broadband

Orange has failed in it's broadband provision for the UK. I saw a TBB post recently that said that they'd handed the LLU keys to BT. We used to have LLU at my exchange, and a year or two ago that went quietly.
IPTV works over ADSL, but you need at least 1Mbit down to be able to sustain 1 stream with a reasonable quality (MPEG-2). With the right codecs and the right box you can get that down to 500Kbits, and HD could be done at 2Mbits (H.264).

Re: BT Vision would do better if..........
I think Orange made a deal to use the Cable and Wireless LLU which was originally built for Bulldog Broadband and off-net Cable and Wireless Business customers.
