Re: Au revoir Virgin

The lead from the telephone socket to the sky tv box can be run off an extension lead as line quality is not important to that connection but you should not use an extension on the socket and then plug the router lead into the extension.
If the lead from the sky tv box isn't long enough plug it into an extension lead and don't worry about it. Plug the router lead directly into the filter which you fit directly onto the telephone socket.
Once the filter is in place your router lead goes into the adsl side and anything else can plug in via the telephone side.

The box doesn't use the phone line to update. Updates come OTA.

The phone connection is required for certain interactive services, & also for Multiroom (so they can check the Multiroom card is in your box, where it is meant to be, and not someone else's box).

The phone connection is also a requirement if you've received a subsidised box.

So we've got abit of a delay with the phone and bb, we rang them up today to see when they will be coming out, he said that they had to send a request letter to virgin so we can keep the same number but they haven't got anything back from them, so it looks like we'll be waiting weeks!.

He said they will install a bt phone line :/, they said a sky phone line when we joined :/

You really need to look around for better deals, £38 per month for Broadband alone is over the top. The more you have with Virgin, the better.

For example, if you phone them and tell them your going to Sky, they will offer you XL TV,XL Broadband and XL phone for about the same price as what Sky was offering.

Bear in mind when you join Sky you will not benefit from the following:

Management of your set top box (repairs are chargeable)
Recieve the advertised internet speed
No TV on Demand

When you take out just 1 service with Virgin, it costs a lot. I know someone that takes BT for phone, Virgin for TV and Demon for Broadband, it doesn't make sense! They pay about £70 where I get everything under one roof from Virgin Media for nearly £20 cheaper!

REMEMBER! As with ALL services, you are entitled to cancel within 14 days, after that, your locked into the contract!

Re: Au revoir Virgin

so i just check mysky and it looks like we now have a sky telephone line, but when i check "track my order" it says

Your order is progressing fine, if it hasn't already been activated, your line will be activated on:
05/02/2010

so has it been activated or not?

Re: Au revoir Virgin

Try it and see.
The VM and BT/Sky phoneline use different master sockets so if you are porting your VM number they can't both be active.
If your current VM phoneline still works the BT one won't be but if you plug your phone into the BT socket and get a dialtone you are 'good to go'.

Re: Au revoir Virgin

Well guess who we got a call from... virgin! he asked why we was leaving and we mentioned the money situation, i got on the phone to him talking about broadband ect, he said id be lucky to get 4Mbps as some people have said on here, anyway the bottom line is.

We got 10Mbps and L Talk Evenings & Weekends all for... £10! for the first 6 months then £19 after, he also said if you ever upgrade in the future you'll only have to pay an extra 8 or 9 pound for the 20mb which is better than 38 quid a month.

so all in all we have sky tv and virgin phone bb all for £28 pm, did i get a bargain?

---------- Post added at 16:23 ---------- Previous post was at 16:21 ----------

Internet now downgraded to 10, better than 4 i guess!

Re: Au revoir Virgin

I shouldn't think so. Their website currently shows £18 a month, however the selection of box is limited to the HD box with the choice of including HD or using the HD box as a Sky +.
