Question Sky tv and pin.

Having recently taken an offer from SKY for a year which includes some Movie Channels which are free of interruptions, (what a joy,) I find that to record prior to the 8pm watershed is only possible with category 12. 15 and 18 protection, when one is present to clear the entry, otherwise one only records the page asking for the Pin and not the program.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to remove the need for a Pin, to enable a recording, I do not have a need for one, ie, children now are adults and not at my home. My Sky system is the old original, not Sky+. My enquiry to Sky on this subject offered no solution, indeed, I got the impression that the contact was learning something from me, not realised before. Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Sky tv and pin.

You will need a Sky+ or Sky+HD box to record the Movie channels without being present to clear the PIN

It's an OFCOM requirement that the channels are PIN protected

Yep, designed to allow Sky (and VM for that matter) to show post-watershed films before the watershed. Only a couple of years ago (IIRC) these sorts of films were never shown pre-watershed, so what you have now is still an improvement on the previous situation, even if it doesn't give you full recording flexibility.

If you don't want to fork out for a Sky+ box, try scanning the TV schedules to find the film you want to record in an alternative time slot. These channels rarely show them as a one off, the chances are you'll find it repeated at some alternative time over the next few weeks.

Re: Sky tv and pin.

BenMcr and Cable Forum Team, Thankyou for your replies and I am most grateful. I had not realised that it was an Ofcom requirement and understand now the reason and as you say, it is an improvement to be able to view before 8pm. Maybe at a later date I will consider a Sky+ box but as I already have Virginmedia and a V+ I should be satisfied. The offer I received was half price for a year & too good to ignore as it included Sky movies 1 at a much lower cost than to just add Movies to the VM package, and this gives a seperate set of Sky channels as well. Thanks again.
