Satellite TV technical question
I don't normally have these kind of queries regarding sat-TV, as I "ordinarily" know what I'm doing. However, this one has me stumped.
I've seen Freesat boxes with LNB IN and LNB OUT sockets for the sat feed. I know that to watch or record 2 different channels you need 2 LNB IN sockets.
I have this idea of having a couple of STBs, but one passed through to the other to act as a recording box that's not Freesat, so it can receive more channels. I understand this would mean I can't change channels on that box, and to a point I wouldn't want to, but can somebody confirm this? So if one box has one feed, an LNB pass-through, and the other box takes in this pass-through, does it still receive a signal and how would that work?

Re: Satellite TV technical question
You can change channels, just not though to a channel of a different polerization (hence the need for two LNB's..(one does Horizontal, the other does vertical - It's nothing in the end to do with the frequency )

Re: Satellite TV technical question
Explain the polarisation thing. For example, if one channel was at 10700H and I wanted to watch a channel at 10900H, would that be possible with the one LNB?

Re: Satellite TV technical question
Yes, the tuning doesn't matter as the LNB's convert the whole band but the polarization is done via a change in the LNB feed voltage.... Obviously is the main sat has the voltage holding the LNB on Horizontal then only Horizontal signals are going to be picked up so the feedthrough if it selects a Vertical channel won't get anything but will pick up the horizontal channels OK

You would also be stuck with the same band (hi or lo) that the main box has selected.

Re: Satellite TV technical question
I didn't want to get too technical and normally just bring up the polarization issue as people know about that more than the tone switching of the IF

They ask a technical question and you try to protect them from the whole answer Kymmy. At some point we have to take the training wheels off, they have to crash now and then.
