Re: I retuned my freeview box and!
Used to pick up Welsh TV extremely good when I had the antenna on the roof in Rusholme, Manchester...
Which direction does your antenna point? (not sure if you'd use winter hill there but if so you might be getting bbc wales on the back lobe of the antenna and if BBC was down when you did the scan BBC wales will be put as channel 1.. )
Try another rescan.. If that doesn't cure it check your antenna is pointing in the right direction..

You're within range of the Moel-y-Parc transmitter so there are definitely Welsh signals on the air for your box to sniff out. Not sure why it would prefer them to Winter Hill though. Do you have a properly aligned rooftop aerial?

Where is your aerial? Does it point the same way as the others in your street?

Re: I retuned my freeview box and!
Seems to me that your antenna MIGHT be a bit wonky to cause this

Re: I retuned my freeview box and!
It could be that you've retuned at a bad moment when your normal transmitter is on low power for maintanence.. Or as already suggested by Chris and myself your antenna could be askew...
If you know which way north is then try to tell us which way your antenna is pointing..
One cure if you have reletives/friends living close by is to take your box to them and retune it on thier antenna, that'll tell you instantly if it's a fault with your antenna or a transmitter problem

Re: I retuned my freeview box and!
From your location, I'm going to stick my neck out and say it should be almost due North for the Winter Hill transmitter. For Moel-y-Park it would have to be pointing more or less South West. So if it's wonky it is very wonky indeed. Do you normally get good signal strength off Winter Hill?

Hmmmm .... East you say .... could be you're using a local relay.
Could you go to http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe? please, input your postcode and then post the results here. Time to stop guessing and work out exactly what's going on.

Re: I retuned my freeview box and!
Hmmmm
It isn't showing up any Welsh transmitter as being in range. Storeton is a relay that broadcasts BBC North West and ITV Granada. So is your aerial pointing north of northeast (in which case it points at Winter Hill) or is it pointing almost due west (in which case it's pointing at Storeton and could conceivably be receiving Moel-y-parc, which is beyond Storeton on the other side of the Dee).

If your aerial is that old, it might be worth upgrading it anyway; one that old would be an aerial with a bandwidth specifically for your TV area whereas for DTV, you need a broadband aerial.

Not strictly true ... you only need a wideband aerial if you want to receieve both analogue and digital signals using the same aerial, and if the transmitter you receive them from uses different channel groups for each service.
If Frankie only wants to get digital transmissions from Winter Hill, then he does not need a wideband aerial; he needs a group C/D aerial as advised in the Wolfbane results he posted earlier (the letters in the column headed Gp).
Frankie ... you still haven't answered, is your aerial really pointing northeast? It's not pointing west by any chance? And is it aligned with the dipoles vertically or horizontally?
