Can i get Sky?
Im thinking of leaving Virgin for Sky as Virgin have been nothing but problems on the internet side of things now since August but im not able to find out if i can get Sky TV...
I live in a block of flats that has a communal dish thats reciently been upgraded for digital, the wiring leads into a cupboard where theres one of these boxes
http://www.antiference.tv/isys5-inte...-multiswitches
all the leads from the flats then lead into this box and in our flats we have wall mounted connectors for Sky and radio.
What i want to know is can i get sky or sky+?

Will depend on how many feeds are free up top If there are 2 feeds not in use you can see if they will install to both of them for you. You will probably find if it's a communal dish that it's nothing to do with sky and that it is contracted out to a 3rd party company by your flat's management company and only they can install to it.

This is precisely the problem I have. Its the managements companys' responsibility to get the second feed in (gawd knows why they didn't do this when building the apartments, the console in the living room even has an 'aux 2' just to wind me up) but they won't do it.
So I have a Sky+ box and can't use the features
To top it off now I can't access some of the terrestrial channels (BBC2, CH4) and there are others like me. They've had the dish checked and say there is no problem, I have no comeback. Obviously its not my box if others are having the same problem. I'd stay away if you have a choice - its nothing but a headache!

Re: Can i get Sky?
This is a problem with communal systems that are a few years old, and even some new ones. Landlords also have the added problem that new building regs dont allow surface cabling anymore. Some get round it by installing surface cables on outside walls, but this is only feasable to a certain height. If you are loosing channels then speak to the management agent, but as for Sky+ a lot of expenditure may be needed.
There are such things as "stackers" that squeeze two sets of signals down one cable, but these can bring their own problems.

I've spent weeks emailing them with the contact details of all the other 6 people concerned - sick to the back teeth of it.
I think I might end up getting rid tbh, its all too much hassle and I'm well out of contract now.

Re: Can i get Sky?
These new IRS systems are supposed to be suitable for all types of satellite TV services, they should have installed a socket, there should be one for VHF/UHF TV which is the aerial, then if there are two satellite points then you can get Sky plus.
If you don't have a socket at all and the IRS installation is complete, you maybe charged for this plus £60 for a new Sky installation.
I don't see the point of leaving Virgin TV if your only having issues with your Broadband, your just incurring more costs and hassle.
Currently Virgin TV customers can upgrade to V+ for £75 http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...lus-offer.html
No additional wiring but a new set top box.
With regards to your Virgin Internet, I would kick up a fuss and complain and get a refund for the times you had trouble as well as get a retentional discount.
If you still have problems cancel Virgin phone and Broadband, contact BT and get a new broadband provider over a BT line however check the speeds before signing up for anything.
If you want to port your Virgin phone number, you need to contact BT first, do not cancel your Virgin phone service until BT has ported the number, BT will cancel your Virgin phone service for you.

Re: Can i get Sky?
okie dokes, well becareful not the most reliable considering the amount of bad stories i've heard.
O2 broadband is another option, bare that in mind I hear much better stories on that, also if your an O2 Mobile customer even a pay&go user, you can get a discount. I think they were offering internet of up to 20MB speed for £7.50 for O2 Mobile customers last time I checked

Re: Can i get Sky?
Make sure your exchange is Sky LLU and not BT connect based (big difference in the two) if it's pure Sky then there should be few problems, if it's BT Connect only then don't touch it with a barge pole as Sky/ BT connect via Sky is complete tripe and unusable for many at certain times of the day.
