Virgin to Sky?

Hi All,

I hope your able to help?

I'm currently both a Sky and Virgin Media customer, Sky for TV and VM for phone and broadband. In an effort to save some money I'm looking to use one provider ideally Sky. I currently pay Sky roughly £55 for Sky+, multi room and a few extra channels, plus £24 + call for phone and broadband. I’ve been offered V+ HD all the channels, phone and broadband for £60pm, but I’m not sure the VM has the functionality I need at the moment.

The problem I have is that I currently have a VM phone line installed, can anyone recommend the easiest way of switching to a BT line. I’ve spoken to Sky twice and I’m getting different stories? I’ve also found an offer today where I can have a BT line installed for free (Saving £125). First time I called I was told to order a BT line, second I was told to contact the post office and they could re-activate the line (Quoted £25) so that Sky could use the line. I’ve now spoken with the post office and they have told me they could re-activate for free but if there are any problems on the line it could cost up to £107.88?? Help...

Also this maybe a silly question but if I have my TV, BB and phone with Sky but order the BT line directly. Who do I pay for the my line rental?

If you give sales a call, explain what you want - they then might be able to work out a deal - mention you wanna switch from Sky and see what happens

Hi Stephen, thanks your your message.

The red button, with Sky I really enjoy watching say Champions league. Via the red button being able to view say 10 games at once. Also when your watching one game when a goal is scored in another game you can press the famous red button and be able to watch goals as they go in. It drives my wife mad!!

Also the lack of channels in HD again big fan of 24, Lost, Gangs. I've been told VM are bringing more HD channels on board it's just when?

V+ has allot of nice features like recording 2 channels at once including ESPN etc, but the red button and not many HD channels is a big thing for me. Sad but true

VM have added 5 HD channels in the last few weeks with more planned, although the Sky HD channels, like Sky One, Sports and movies will probably not appear for a while.

You are correct about the Red button sports and again that is a feature that Sky could add for VM but they don't want to share.

Sky offer different levels of phone service. Which one you have would affect who you pay line rental to.

Sky Talk Freetime - Line rental goes to BT

Sky Talk Unlimited - Line rental goes to BT

Sky Talk Line Rental - Line rental goes to Sky

I assume that you could order a line via BT, but still take out the actual line rental with Sky if you wanted, rather than being tied with BT for line rental due to them installing the line.

But if you do decide that you want the lot via Sky, then give Sky a call & see if they'll pay for the BT line installation. They have for others in the past, not sure if they still do at the moment, but I'd be surprised if they didn't - e.g. if they pay for the line, they get your business; if they don't pay for the line, you may decide to ditch them completely for VM.

Hi All,

Thanks for all your help.

Just got off the phone to Sky and they have agreed to provide and install HD for nothing plus all the channels apart from ESPN for £60. I then have to install the BT line (FOC) and pay them the rental charge £11 per month.

Overall really pleased it's sorted and the install is on Monday!!! Can't wait....
