Re: Planning permission needed for Sky? (was: hi)
I've edited the thread title to be a little more helpful.
In regard to your question, I beleive that most local authorities do not require planning permission unless they have a local bylaw requiring it.

Is the flat rented?
If so, he may need permission from the landlord.

Strictly speaking no. If I remember right a dish of up to 90cm can be installed.
However beware if he is renting, as a lot of landlords are now fitting communial systems in prep for switchover. Local councils in particular are changing tenancy agreements to make use of these systems compulsory once they are fitted.

Not necessarily true. If you are in a listed building or conservation area there may be restrictions. I'm in a conservation area, and I'm not allowed to put a dish on the front of the house (but I can have one on a pole at the back of the house).

Even if the flat is owned, i.e. on a long leasehold, there may be restrictions in that long lease against individual satellite dishes.

Yep some flats have communal systems and will take down individual dishes if installed.

It also depends on if the building is in a conservation area or if the building itself is listed..
