Sky to ramp up VoD service

Sky is set to go head-to-head with Virgin Media in the ‘pull VoD’ market with plans to launch a service in about a year’s time.

Re: Sky to ramp up VoD service

So to request a stream they'd either have to use the Modem or make use of the Ethernet port I guess?

Re: Sky to ramp up VoD service

I very much doubt that these videos will be broadcast from the satellite. Almost certainly they will come via a broadband connection and will be a boxed up version of their SkyPlayer.

That should work nicely with my 10Mb connection. Watch a TV programme and wait for STM to kick in.

Could be worse... could have a download cap.

Re: Sky to ramp up VoD service

If its broadband reliant, then count my estate off! ADSL speeds are incredibly low, across the road from me is the borough of Westminster and the Crown estate which is covered by that botched up ex-BT cable network, luckily Virgin Media has spotted this poor ADSL area and run Fibre optic superfast broadband like all other cable franchises unfortunately, its taking them a while to roll out Digital TV.

Tiscali TV offers nearly same level of on-demand as Virgin Media and that is broadband reliant but its a flop when it comes to homes with speeds as little as 512K and 1MB speeds.
