Re: Distributing TV!
Result! So, the previous occupier had actually cut the original f-plugs off the cables?

Well its a good few months ago that we moved in, and I found two f-plugs in my toolbox on the weekend so maybe I took them off initially ....can't remember.

Re: Distributing TV!
Hello, i'm back.
So at present I have FreeSat up and running in my living room only, however I do have coax cable running to my kitchen where I have a tv installed.
I have a splitter that I have installed to send the FreeSat signal to my kitchen. However, i'm not recieving a signal as of yet?
Very soon I am having sky plus installed and wish to send that signal to the kitchen also.
Is this possible?! If so, how will both signals arrive at the kitchen tv.
Cheers.

Re: Distributing TV!
Now now ... the answers to these questions are already in this thread. You *cannot* split a coax cable from a satellite dish and expect it to work. Each TV you install needs its own set top box and each set top box needs its own cable direct from the LNB attached to the dish.

Re: Distributing TV!
So I can't send a signal from my FreeSat box to another room?

Re: Distributing TV!
What exactly are you trying to split? You're going to have to be very specific about what cables are going in and out of all your kit and where you've split them, otherwise it's impossible to say whether what you're doing will work.

Re: Distributing TV!
As it stands I haven't split anything.
My FreeSat box is connected to my living room tv and connected to the satellite dish. This connection is sound - I have a signal.
For the time being I am literally trying to send a FreeSat signal from my living room to the kitchen. I have a length of coax running from my living room into the kitchen, and plugged into the back of the kitchen tv.

Re: Distributing TV!
How is the Freesat box connected to the living room TV?

Re: Distributing TV!
And you're wanting to connect a coax cable into the Freesat box as well, in order to serve the TV in the kitchen?

Re: Distributing TV!
Yes.
But eventually I want to serve the tv's in 2 bedrooms aswell. Both of which also have coax running to them from the living room.
Thats where I thought the splitter comes in?

Re: Distributing TV!
Splitting the RF output from the Freesat box will work in theory, although you may need to do it with a powered distribution amplifier in order to avoid poor signal on your destination TVs. You would also have to put up with only being able to view the same channel on all TVs.
The problem I think you may have however, is I am not sure the Freesat box is capable of outputting to scart and RF simultaneously. If you have tried two TVs connected to the box, one by scart and one by RF, and only the scart-connected TV is receiving anything, that could be the reason. Have a look in the box's setup options. Is there an option for selecting the output?

Re: Distributing TV!
I see what your saying. I will look at the setup options when I get home later.
To be honest I think im pretty poor at getting accross what I actually want.
In a nutshell is there anyway I can watch, say, Sky Sports outside of the living room if my other half wants to watch, say, BBC1 in the living room?

Re: Distributing TV!
Not by splitting the signal from a single set top box, no. I don't think it's even possible with the Humax Freesat+HD, which is a PVR with dual tuners.
If you want each TV to be completely independent, then each TV requires its own tuner. For satellite, each tuner resides in its own set-top box* and each STB then requires an independent cable back to the LNB attached to the dish, and its own connection into the LNB.
*Panasonic actually do a range of TVs with Freesat tuners built in, but they're a bit pricey for what you want to achieve-and they would still each require an independent connection back to the LNB.
