Is this allowed?

We have a Sky Digibox in the lounge, which is also diverted to 2 bedrooms.
The 2 bedrooms don't have their own Digiboxes.
An indpendant Sky installer did the installation for us..nice guy

We would now like to have Sky+ installed in the lounge, but we are concerned that if we have Sky to install it, their installer might tell us that having Sky in the 2 bedrooms via the new Sky+ box in the lounge, is not allowed.

Can anyone confirm if a Sky installer would allow this set up?
Thanks.

Re: Is this allowed?

If the Sky box in the lounge is feeding two bedrooms which do not have their own Sky box, then I would assume that the feeds are coming from the RF outputs on the lounge Sky box - which is perfectly normal & allowed (it's what the outputs are for e.g. one for the main TV & one for a bedroom, or both for other TVs).

All that would need doing in addition to the standard Sky+ installation is hooking up the bedroom aerial lead feeds to the new Sky+ box instead of the old standard Sky box.

hi Tabitha

i can confirm sky will leave it how it is but connected to the sky+ box but make sure the installer checks the other tv's are working before he leaves.

Re: Is this allowed?

Thanks guys.

I have been told that when you have Sky+ installed you need a new thicker cable and something attached to the transponder on the dish. Will this new cable only need to go to the Sky+ box in the lounge, or will it also need to go to both bedrooms? Just trying to assess the amount of mess it may make because all my cables are nice and neat in the bedrooms and inside trunking.
Thanks

You might need another LNB, depends what's there already and when it was done.

A Sky+ box requires two separate feeds from the dish. To achieve this, the dish needs a 'dual-LNB' (the widget on the dish's arm) to provide the two feeds, and there needs to be two cables between the dual-LNB and the Sky+ box so that it can receive them. The two cables are normally supplied moulded within the same plastic casing, so it simply looks like a thicker single cable, or a bit like loudspeaker cable but much, much thicker.

This new cable only needs to go as far as the Sky+ box. If you are content to view in your bedrooms only whatever the box in the living room is currently showing, then no changes are necessary to any of your other cables.
