How do I copy cable movies onto dvd using sony recorder?

I live in NY and pay for premium channels, I always used to be able to copy ON DEMAND CABLEVISION movies, such as HBO, SHO, Starz, etc... onto DVDs to watch later on.

I have a New SONY DVD/Video Recorder, works fine recording Regular Cablevision shows.

However, now I BELIEVE they have encrypted my paid for On Demand movies.

What do I need to do to be able to copy my paid for Cablevision On Demand movies onto DVDs using my Sony DVD/Video recorder???

How do I decrypt.

This SHOULD NOT BE ILLEGAL

Quote:SINCE I PAY FOR A PLATIMUM PLAN THAT INCLUDES ALL OF THE FOLLOWING ON DEMAND CHANNELS...

HBO
SHOWTIME
STARZ
CINEMAX
ENCORE
DISNEY......and other premium channels I subscribe to.

Nothing to do with VM as you are in the USA (this forum is based in the UK) so moved from that area

If it's encrypted as part of the transmission then you are probably stuffed. Remember this forum does not allow discussion of means of obtaining services without subscription and thus using some form of system to bypass the encryption, even if this is available, cannot be posted here.

I've yet to try this, but I just assumed that anything going from my VM box via scart to my DVD recorder, could be recorded.

Can catch-up on demand be recorded, or is that encrypted too?

Seeing you're not trying to do anything illegal, why not simply give your cableco a call and ask them?

Certain Files, such as Pay Per View Stuff, have a copy protection on them when transmitted on Virgin Media, and presumably that is the case for some files in the USA too. Clearly the copy protection is not intended to be circumvented, and is designed to stop you copying to a DVD or VCR.

Perhaps your cable company left off the copy protection in error but have now fixed it.

I guess you have to see it from their point of view, if it's a paid for on-demand program, they have to protect themselves from people recording and distributing it. There may be a work-around, but as Rob says, it cannot be discussed here.
