Cable box and recorder incombatibility

I just got Time Warner Cable installed on Tuesday. When I turn on my recorder, there is so much static on the TV and on any recordings I make. I tried resetting the cable box, moved the recorder further away, plugged the recorder to a different electrical circuit and nothing works. I can see and hear the images as long as I do not try to use my recorder which is in between the cable box and TV. Are there any filters or do I need to get another recorder for my DVD and VCR media. Are there some that are compatible with the cable box and some that are not? Please advise-help.
