What to do if your Sky+ box can't access the programme planner today.

It seems Sky rolled out a software update this weekend that seems to have a bug which has affected a few boxes.

The bug basically stops you being able to access the programme planner, and, therefore, being able to record..

According to El Reg (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/11/24/sky_plus_bug/ ), Sky are recommending users do the following if affected:
  1. Put Sky+ box into standby
  2. Take out viewing card
  3. Power off at mains
  4. Power on (after 10-20 seconds)
  5. Press on button after 30 seconds or so.
  6. Planner then available
  7. Reinsert viewing card
  8. Wait for update to channels
  9. Planner still okay

Apparently, this does fix the problem for some people, but others may find themselves frozen out again eventually.

Sky are apparently aware of the problem, and The Reg will be posting more info on the link above when they have it.

this does fix the problem until you put the box into standby , sky have just shafted all the people who 'upgraded' their sky + boxes , i have had to leave mine on for the past week otherwise i can't record anything . I wouldn't mind but i only put a new drive in mine becasue the crappy quality drive they put in my box died after 16 months and they wanted to charge me £65 for the new hard drive , i put one in myself for £25 and it has worked brilliantly for nearly 2 years until they 'updated' the box software , knew exactly what they were doing if you ask me. V+ here we come

As a follow up to the above story, Sky are apparently still looking at the problem, have concluded it mainly affects those who have replaced the drives (as with bulkylad above) themselves, and are considering rolling back the software to the previous version. Possibly tonight.

I suppose that's a benefit then with V+ where the box is always replaced/repaired by the company.

Re: What to do if your Sky+ box can't access the programme planner today.

Ive had some problems with my HD box since i bought it, when it randomly crashes and wont play some recorded stuff. After getting cut off once i got through to a helpful person and he got it all back up and running, i requested a new box and two days later i get a brand spanker installed Any box under 90 days is a brand new swap out instead of recon unit, mine was around 120 days though. It was good service though and my signal quality is now 100% on both inputs as they installed it correctly this time.

They are being a bit economical with the truth. It affects a lot of early Pace boxes, modded or not. Strange that the Reg chose to propagate the myth that it was only modded boxes that were affect (i.e it's your own fault for modding)

Good news that it's been rolled back though.
