please help in despair

i have a sony bravia tv with built in freeview,a sony dvd recorder with built in freeview and a standard virgin media digital box,
my trouble has began as this week i have had a digital ariel installed on my roof ( i used to have a inside analouge ariel) since this has been installed i cannot recieve cable channels on my dvd recorder.the only channels it will recieve are the freeview and it seems to not be able to pick up virgin cable channels.
i can watch virgin cable channels through my tv through av2.
my dvd is tuned onto av5 but only recieves the freeview channels.
when i check line 1 or line 2 on the dvd recorder its just blank with no signal
i have tried all combinations of connections using scart, hdmi and coaxle cables and a combination of all three but cannot get cable picture.
p.s i used to get a cable picture before i had the digital ariel installed
many thanks for any reply

Important things first Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to go back to basics after you have obviously had a frustrating time but some times it's difficult to see the most simple of errors. As everything worked before having your indoor coaxial feed swapped to a rooftop one I wouldn't have expected anything not to work.

Double check with this diagram to make sure you haven't missed out a step in the wiring up process.

Connections
1. RF cable (aerial) which supplies digital (and analogue) signal to set top box
2. RF cable supplies digital (and analogue) signal to the DVDR
3. RF cable supplies digital (and analogue) signal to the TV
4. Scart cable allows you to watch your set top box
5. Scart cable which allows you to watch a DVD from your DVDR
6. Scart cable which allows you to record from your set top box to your DVDR RT CABLE

Re: please help in despair

Moved to 'Other Digital TV Services Discussion' as this doesn't appear to be a VM Install issue.
