Exclamation sky+ and telewest box in same room?

Hi guys

I have recently had a sky + box installed in my lounge. I still have my old telewest box, but that is now in my kitchen. Is it possible to now bring back my telewest box back into the lounge? I still want to keep sky +. So, i guess what i'm trying to say is ....can i have both boxes running together?

Simple answers please

thanks

Re: sky+ and telewest box in same room?

Do you mean you want to connect both the tw box and sky+ to the same TV? If so, it can be done provided you have enough connections for your TV to take both. Otherwise you might need a scart switch.

Re: sky+ and telewest box in same room?

In that case you'll need a scart switch or something similar... or swapping scart leads out everytime you want to switch between the 2.

Re: sky+ and telewest box in same room?

You should have two scarts on each box, one that is output to the tv and another, which is input for a dvd/vcr. Just plug your dvd in one of these and spare yourself the trouble of buying a scart switch.

Aren't both scarts on TW and Sky+ outputs, i.e. one output to TV and one output to recording device?

Correct. The fact they're labelled TV and VCR respectively implies you connect the box to the TV via its labelled SCART socket, and if you want to record from the Sky+/TW on a DVD/video recorder, you connect that up to the VCR SCART socket. A SCART switcher is the only way you can (if you haven't got enough SCART sockets on the telly) watch with many devices.

Re: sky+ and telewest box in same room?

ok, ok, told u i was a bit thick!! Now, u have really confused me. Last night i brought my TW box into the lounge. I then put the scart cable onto the tv. I then moved the one that was on the tv (which was my video) onto the TW box also. But what i don't understand is where do i connect the aerial one? When i put the TW box on, it obviously gave me an error code. I think the problem is the fact that i have a dvd, video and a sky + box?? thank u for being patient!! Now u know why i have a pig as my profile picture, i couldn't bear for anyone to know what i look like !!

Re: sky+ and telewest box in same room?

Leave your DVD as it is. Connect a scart cable from the output scart socket in the Sky+ to one of the available scart sockets on the scart switch. Do the same with the Telewest box. Connect the Scart switch direct to the remaining scart socket in your TV.

You'll get a scart switch (sometimes called a splitter) from places like Maplins and Argos and (puts on voiceover voice) and most good electrical retailers. Or have a quick google. I'd advise against the very cheap ones as they can be very poor quality.

There's a good link here for different connections but there isn't one that gives your set up. It may give you an idea of what is required though.
