freeview reception problem

hi,
I have a usb freeview (it comes with small indoor anthena) that I use it with my laptop.

It worked fine but now I've move to a new place where and doesn't get ANY channels at all.

So what can I do to boost the signal and get some reception please?
(I can't use outdoor anthena)

thank you

Re: freeview reception problem

First of all check that you can even receive Freeview at your new place, and if so, what aerial is required. Go to http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?DX=L&OS and input your postcode.

If you could post a screencap of the results (with your postcode removed), then we can advise what you might try next.

Re: freeview reception problem

It it has a standard TV antenna connection between the antenna and USB device then you could replace the antenna with a more directional unit...

The built in vertical antenna's on such devices only work in optimal signal strength areas... Everywhere else you need a high gain antenna..

Well, you're very close to Crystal Palace and the predictor suggests you should only need a set-top aerial. So it's a bit odd that you should be getting absolutely nothing from your unit, which has previously worked very well.

You really shouldn't need any kind of signal booster ... which room are you using this in? Are there any big, solid walls between yourself and the transmitter? If you're not sure which way the transmitter is from your house, have a look out the window and see where all the other aerials are pointing.

If possible, get hold of a directional TV aerial and give that a try - make sure you point it the right way, and out of a window facing the transmitter if at all possible. Unless your USB unit has somehow got broken, a slightly better aerial should be all that is required.
