Sky Plus Box and Remote Control not working

Any help much appreciated here!!

I have had Sky+ box for two years.
My Sky+ box and remote control are not working.
My TV works fine.
The remote controls red light shows at the end -tried replacing batteries and still no luck.
I've called Sky+ twice this evening and got through to digibox technical.
1) Told to unplug box for 10 secs, replug in and on the Sky+ box hold down together the left & right key an either side of the 'select' button.
2) Pressed 'Select' twice and the circular light went round continuously in an anticlockwise direction.
3) Techie told me to wait 90 secs and in theory the circular light would stop (didn't at my end.)
4) Then press 'TV' and 'Sky' on remote to work.

NO LUCK!!!!!!!!

My box isn't working with manual touch.
No warranty and I refuse to pay for an engineer call out at the mo.

Any help or other solutions would be much appreciated please.

Many thanks in advance

UPDATE:::Sky Plus Box and Remote Control not working::::

My Sky+ box has started occasionally working, but record function and 'live pause' are not working.

Any advice?? Is my Sky box heading for the tip?

Many thanks

Do you get any messages when you try to record or pause?

When I had my Sky+ installed it took about 15 mins for the record/pause function to be activated and a message appeared on screen.

Re: :::Sky Plus Box and Remote Control not working::::

Thanks for the reply. Message says recording and playback functions not available and gives a number to ring, which is no longer available so had to ring another number. Was advised to do a housekeeping reset (option 4 in services, then 0, 1 and select followed by Full System Reset. This was meant to take 90 seconds but I left it overnight and was still going in morning so no good. Sky's response was the usual 'service call required'. Can't understand how box can now been working but Sky+ not. Getting very disillusioned with Sky - thinking of switching to freeview recorder.

Sky can activate or deactivate the Sky + functions. Have they checked your account? Also, not having Sky, I am not sure, but the box may need to be attached to a phone line to activate Sky +.

Re: :::Sky Plus Box and Remote Control not working::::

I turned my sky on today and found the planner showing the programmes I had sky+. Then when I pressed to go on the tv guide it goes to the listings. When I try to select something it turns the sky off. I can programme it from the top of the box so that is not faulty. If I am watching sky and try to turn the volume up with the tv control, it takes you back to the planner. I have called sky and our tv guy and they do not have a clue, also have purchased a new control..still not working. Do you think I could have possible pressed something on one of the controls which makes them conflict each other?

Re: Sky Plus Box and Remote Control not working

Try:
New batteries in the remote.

if still in trouble, try:
Reboot the sky+ box, the TV and anything else you have connected.

if still in trouble, try:
Rebuild the planner (this is supposedly non-destructive)

if still in trouble, try:
Reformat the HDD. (this is destructive)

if still in trouble, try:
Get engineer out

Details of how to rebuild the planner and how to reformat can be found in the forums at:
http://www.skyuser.co.uk/index.php?categoryid=1

Good luck.

Re: Sky Plus Box and Remote Control not working

Hi Mick thanks for the reply. The problem I have is that I have to manually do the controls from the box itself. Everytime I press a key on the sky control it switches off. I have got into services but it then says press 0 then 1 which is not possible on the box. Is there anyway I can get to rebuild just using the box itself and its directional keys? Cheers Ralph

Re: Sky Plus Box and Remote Control not working

Sorry I don't know but I'll bet it's possible.

Ask over at Sky User, there are some knowledgeable folks over there.

Hmmm...they say if you remove the batteries in the remote for 10 minutes it resets itself.

I don't know if it wll help though.

Have you tried a full system reset.

Services System set up,Press 0 then 1 select ,scroll down to Full System Reset .
