Sky One - Best Entertainment Channel 2008
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=810544
SKY One wins Best Entertainment channel 2008 in the Broadcast digital channel awards. Quotes from broadcast...
"it was generally agreed that, at its peak, it reaches heights few rivals can match - and those peaks are coming around much more regularly. Despite no longer being available in cable homes, 28 Sky One programmes were watched by more than 1 million viewers and one judge praised it for the "best choice of original commissions", which complement its traditionally high profile acquisitions.
The result is some of the most watched shows in multichannel: The Colour of magic felt like a feature film, Ross Kemp in Afghanistan was critically acclaimed and built on last year's Bafta-winning gangs series. Meanwhile, Are you smarter? gave the channel a flagship quiz show as glitzy as anything on terrestrial TV.
These, Plus perennial favourites Lost and Prison Break were key parts of the channel's "event programming" strategy. "
Not to mention Battlestar (friking awesome show), LOST and 24 and its not hard to see why Sky is the iPod of the digital television world.
Well done Sky!

I love the way people always knock this. The simple fact is that the Simpsons is very popular. The top 10 list for each week on Sky One is generally at least 50% Simpsons episodes, and Sky Ones viewing figures are generally the hightest of any cable channel.

I would have to say though, as a Sky subscriber and fan of the product that it is on a little bit too much though...
Saying that, with Sky + who cares, I've got plenty other things to watch instead.

Re: Sky One - Best Entertainment Channel 2008
Again its only sky subs that can have the channel so pointless really you need to be able to see how many viewers would rate it if it was on more platforms i.e freeview, Virgin Media (yeah right)

Just taking today as an example, there were 2 hours of the Simpsons, there were also 2 hours of the Dresden Files, 3 hours of Road Wars, and 4 hours of Stargate-SG1 ! - the facts dont support the myth.

Why let facts get in the way of a perfectly good theory?

Re: Sky One - Best Entertainment Channel 2008
Correct.
And the winner of the Channel of the Year was BBC Four (check the link).
Dave was the big winner of the evening scooping Best Channel Marketing and Launch of the Year
Nickelodeon won Best Children's Channel
E4/Skins (2nd series) won Best Multi Platform Project
BBC 4 won Channel of the Year
BBC4 fought off the challenge of Dave, which won two awards in its own right, to land channel of the year at the Broadcast Digital Channel Awards 2008 last night.
It was praised for its ambitious seasons, smart US acquisitions such as Mad Men and Flight of the Conchords and ratings-busting dramas such as The Curse of Steptoe - and beat off competition from CBeebies, Dave, ITV2, Nickelodeon and Sky One. BBC4 is "culturally significant while maintaining the core brand values", said the judges. "It knows its audience and creates break-out hits."
The individual achievement award went to Sky Sports managing director Vic Wakeling, who has been responsible for the broadcaster's innovative football coverage for 17 years.
Dave won two awards - launch of the year and best channel marketing - in recognition of its ratings and commercial success since its rebrand from UKTV G2. "A lesson in innovative, original and fresh channel branding," said the judges, "it's a finance director's dream."
Sky One took the prize for best entertainment channel in a close race with ITV2, which was highly commended

Remembering from way back when I had Sky One, the same episodes were repeated over and over again, which sort of helped in me, getting bored with the Simpsons. 7 days a week as well.

Funny that there was not mention of this in the BAFTA's.
As they say in Spain: Sky Juan - estiércol del toro
Sigh...................!
