Top Up TV - IDE or SATA

Hi all,

Does anyone know whether the Top Up TV+ box uses IDE or SATA, only I am thinking of upgrading the 160gb hard disk to a larger capacity one once the manufacturers guarantee runs out in December.

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Re: Top Up TV - IDE or SATA

The one thing you do have to be careful of is that it might use some kind of proprietry file system (other the standard windows ones like FAT32 and NTFS). So before you buy a new drive, i'd whack the old one in a computer and find out which file system it is, so you can format the new one correctly. Your STB might be able to do it regardless though.

Yeah, i've just been reading on DS forums and some other ones I found on Google that it usually formats it on startup but if it doesn't I can do it how I usually do through the menu.

Re: Top Up TV - IDE or SATA

What you might find though is that it's set up for a particular HDD (cylinders, heads, sectors) and will only format to a particular size depending on the firmware. This is especially the case with older equipment. The format on a PC method should enable you to get passed this problem if it does occur.

Re: Top Up TV - IDE or SATA

I have returned to the forum muhahahaha.

Anyway,
My 160gb box broke, stopped picking up a signal so took it back to argos and got a replacement 250gb one because that is what they do now for the same price so didn't cost me a penny extra so was happy with that. Until, I went on holiday and when I got back found it was stuck in standby so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it hadn't recorded anything for days, but I just thought it was a one off and left it, a couple of days later I got in to find it stuck in standby again and hadn't recorded anything that day so rebooted again and left it but it kept re-occuring. So I took it back to argos and got another replacement which had been working fine for the past few weeks since i've had it but now has developed a fault where every single channel is jumpy even though I have a signal quality of 9 out of 10. SO, I shall be taking this one back to argos and getting a refund this time and then will get a half price v+ box.

The End.

Re: Top Up TV - IDE or SATA

Ah forgot about this thread, well, 10 months on and I did take that box back but got a digihome dtr rather than the v+ and it was far better than the Top Up TV one but failed on me this week so took it back, got a refund and ordered a V+ box for £49 last night
