Re: ITV HD now testing FTA on Eurobird 1 28.5 East

Doesn't work on my Sky HD box.

It finds 5 channels. 4 can be watched/listened to. 1 is listed as '-' and doesn't have any video/audio.

yeah thats what im getting on a standard Sky Digibox. King Of Sat is usually on the money, which leads me to think that maybe the tests are using properties that can only be viewed on a freesat/FTA receiver, as Sky's receivers are pretty limited in what tuning details you can use/enter.

How do you use this stuff?

Do you just add the channel with the correct frequency given from the king of sat website?

I realise the ITV HD channel is currently unavailable but there is other stuff on there.

You can't see the ITV HD signal as they have defined the video stream as a h222 private data stream. Unless you have a STB which allows you to define the video, audio and PCR PIDs then you can't see it. Sky boxes defintely can't see it.
I can!

Theyve been showing a loop of a helicopter flight over London. Theres a lot of shots of the Gherkin in London. I think that the loop is from the HD Forum. One day this week it was colour bars and tone all day.

I should point out thats its expected that ITV HD will never be a linear full time channel like the BBC HD. Its thought that when theres HD content available it will be via a red button prompt on Freesat boxes only from the regional ITV stations.

I read that too...apparently if you're watching ITV and the programme is available in HD, a red-button prompt will appear on-screen, which will take you to that programme in HD.

Personally I am not sure I like that approach, and it's unclear as how you might record an HD programme on an interactive service - but I guess we'll see. I also think it's a bit shoddy that FreeSat are making such a big deal about HD channels for free, and the main partner to the BBC hasn't even got its HD channel on-air yet!

Freesat also do not have any PVR's that I've seen so far.
