Record One & Watch Another Ch

HI THERE, CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THIS Q?
I HAVE A PIONEER TV PDP-435XDE WITN B/IN FREE VIEW, HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT AFTER THE CHANGE OVER TO DIGITAL I CANNOT RECORD ONE CHANNEL AND WATCH ANOTHER, I WOULD NEED ANOTHER STB CAN ANYONE TELL ME IS THIS TRUE.

Yes and no

If you have an analogue tv and an analogue tuned recording device you will only be able to reocrd the channel you are watching.

If you have a V+ or Sky+ box then you will be able to watch what ever you want and record another channel due to the fact that these devices have more than one digital tuner

Or as you have a built in freeview tuner, if you get a DVD recorder also with a freeview tuner (most have these days) you can record a channel and watch another at the same time.

If you want to go the PVR route then I can recommend Humax. I got one for my daughter and she loves it. Apart from the lack of series link (it will come to freeview eventually I believe) the Humax is as good, if not better in some ways then Sky+. You can edit out commercials actually on the Humax and even connect to a PC directly by firewire. It has 2 tuners so you can record 2 channels at the same time while watching a pre-recorded show. Think I paid about Ã‚Â£180 and it came with a 2 year guarantee.

hi, thanks for the info, i do have another digital set top box so i can use that to record one channel and watch anoter or can,t i.
anyway why don,t the saleman tell us that when we bry a tv with b/in freeview?

Yes you can use it because the digital set top box will act as a 'digital tuner' for the recording device. Or again if you want to go for a PVR, i would recommend the Top Up TV+ box, i have one upstairs and it's a good piece of kit. It has series link and loads of other features. I got mine for Ã‚Â£99.99 from Argos. Plus, if you ever want to upgrade to pay tv and get more channels you can for Ã‚Â£9.99 a month. I am not subscribed though as I have VM downstairs

Hi Guys,
Been reading some of your post on this subject of "Record One & Watch Another Channel". I need some help also about this. I got a Philips Freeview top box and just recently purchased a "PANASONIC DVD RECORDER DMR-EZ27EB" which also has it's own built in Freeview. So I got = 1 x TV, 1 X Freeview top box, and 1 x DVD Recorder with Freeview. I got the DVD to record "BLUE THUNDER" this afternoon but when I switched on TV I was locked in watching that instead of another channel. Is it possible for me to watch another channel whilst my DVD recorder records another channel. Timm

It depends how you've got them connected. You'll want to have the freeview box going into AV1 of the TV, and the dvd recorder into AV2. When the recorder is recording something, switch your TV input to AV1 to watch whatever you want on freeview.

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking that it might have something to do with the AV thingees, I noticed last night that when I put on my Freeview it showed up as AV1 on the TV and when I switched that off and put the DVD/Freeview that also came up as AV1. So I will do what you mention put the Freeview box on AV1 and the DVD on AV2 and take it from there.Along with these two items I have a Home Cinema System which I can put into either AV1 or 2.
