Sky + Problem with HD

Friend has just called me and said the hard drive has gone on his Sky+


What are the hard drives in the boxes?

Is it a case of simply replacing the Hard drive ? Format Install?

Can the box be simply opened.

My hard drive has problems and its barely had 6 months use, sky engineer visiting tommorow and hoping to get a new box preferably not amstrad.
