Sky Record Quarter Subscriber Acquisitions
OK Let's try this again.

BSkyB today revealed it is winning new subscribers at a record rate as it continues to benefit from the fall-out of its ongoing dispute with rival Virgin Media.
The pay-TV broadcaster said that it had signed up an all-time high 349,000 subscribers in the three months to June 30, up 20 per cent on a year ago. After taking account of defections in the quarter, net new customer additions were 90,000, above the vast majority of City forecasts, taking BSkyB’s total subscriber base in the UK up 17 per cent year-on-year to nearly 8.6 million.

BSkyB added 207,000 Sky+ digital video recording boxes in the period, bringing its total to 2.37 million. The device lets users watch and record different programs at the same time.
The company added 48,000 customers to its high-definition service in the quarter, bringing the total to 292,000. The company added 171,000 phone customers through the end of June, bringing the total to 526,000.
BSkyB also said it lost fewer customers in the fourth quarter.
BSkyB's churn, or customer cancellation rate, fell to 12.1 percent from 13.7 percent in the period, the company said today. In the fiscal second quarter, BSkyB began emphasizing new products rather than discounts, which the company said would cause churn to increase temporarily.
BSkyB's average revenue per user rose 1.5 percent in the quarter to 412 pounds from 406 pounds.

Sky Broadband is believed to be accounting for 50% of all new broadband connections in the UK:

The number of customers taking up Sky Broadband also beat forecasts by increasing by 259,000 to 716,000, beating the 700,000 figure the company had forecast.

They did cut their churn a fair bit to be fair and even with that in mind the net adds were ahead of expectations

To quote from unbiased news source Bloomberg... (Unlike Timesonline and for those who don't know is, The Times, which is published by Times Newspapers Limited, a subsidiary of News International, itself wholly owned by the News Corporation group, headed by Rupert Murdoch. Sky's Big Boss)
"On broadband, they slightly beat their own forecast. It's a good number, but not an astonishing number.''
I would have to agree. The phrase 'Move along, nothing to see here' comes to mind.

I'm sure it was merely an accidental oversight that you didn't note the more positive comments from the unbiased Bloomberg article:
Quote:
The shares rose to the highest in more than three years.
``The bundling strategy is working,'' said Claudio Aspesi, a London-based analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein, who rates BSkyB ``outperform.''
BSkyB's strategy is ``one of the most compelling stories in the media sector,'' UBS analyst Daniel Kerven, who rates the company ``buy 2,'' wrote in a note today. Kerven said BSkyB had an ``excellent quarter'' and average revenue per user, net additions, churn and telephone customer additions were all better than the average analyst estimates.
|
Nor that it specifically commented on VM:
Quote:
|
added 259,000 new broadband customers in the fiscal fourth quarter, topping its target for the year as it took customers from rival Virgin Media Inc.
|
In light of comments like that from the unbiased Bloomberg I'd say your accusations of bias on the part of the Times along with the very selective quoting of the Bloomberg article are pretty funny
I guess every article that speaks strongly positively of these results must be biased while one analyst's opinion on the performance of one product is taken as gospel hmm?

Re: Sky Record Quarter Subscriber Acquisitions
If you say so Carl (BTW aren't you banned from here?). Also note that this is a cable orientated website, so if we decide not to publish Sky related stuff this is why, it has nothing at all whatsoever to do with being biased, we are not biased despite your wild and stupid claims that we are. Yeah yeah, continue with your agenda, say we are just in denial, whatever, I couldn't give a crap what you think.
There are too many people wanting to make such claims especially when I point out that Sky's isn't the be all and end all alternative to VM. They have their faults just like VM when it comes to their customer service.
Anyway back to business, banned members shall remain banned-end of.

Sky seem to get a lot of mentions when it's negative, for example VM beating Sky in it's adding of new customers, for the last quarter, maybe tha'ts just an accident though, rather than bias. Silly me.
Not to mention the slow speed with which negative stories about VM are posted, if posted at all. Thank god you've put our minds at rest though Mick, at least it's not biased, i must admit it was a worry of mine, now i can rest safe in the knowledge that everything is in hand.

Yes silly you, you are another one who can get off the 'Bias' bandwagon as well - I saw what stupid nonsense you posted the last time and you are wrong then, like you are now. Some people need to grasp the fact that this is a cable site, i.e we cater for Cable stories, we are not here on the whim to make this a Cable vs Sky website, its just some people like to treat it this way and some people become fanatical about slagging ntl/VM at any given opportunity, 'get a life' springs to mind.

There is no slow speeds within which news stories are posted, regardless which side of the arguement they are on, I make no apology that 'I' or 'we' are unable to cater for your anti-VM agenda and you would like to see all 'hell' type stories to cater for your fanatical, slagging off VM agenda.
Anyway, regardless of your claim. I say there are plenty of news stories on this website which cover both sides of the arguement, i.e statements from both VM and Sky and if there is a delay in them being posted (Jeez, we have time constraints to attend to now do we?), we are probably having to attend to our lives, you see we do have them you know. Silly me... I tell you what, you pay us a salary and then you can do our peformance overview.

Apparently talking about alternatives to Virgin Media in the "Alternatives to Virgin Media" section is frowned upon
Anyone know what temperature books burn at?
