Sky's New Sky One Advert

Saw last night that sky have a new advert made to have a dig at some channel...it goes like this...

"In this world there are two types of entertainment channel, those that show old re-runs of Law and Order, and those that dont....Sky One is the latter....." some bs about Sky One's Law and Order being 2 years newer than the "other channel"

Not sure exactly which channel its talking about....surely not the on-its-way Virgin 1 channel?

I think theyre running out of ideas personally...it was childish at first, then it became boring, when i moved into my appartment and started debating the whole Sky or Cable decision...my initial instincts were not to research which would give me the newest episodes of Law and Order.

Suggests to me that the only new prog Sky has is Law & Order!

Maybe the other channel is Hallmark or Channel 5?

Looks like the lack of subscriptions from cable customers is starting to hurt Sky when it comes to buying new programs.

Lots actually, even Sky admitted that this year they would be down in advertising revenue because of the loss of potential viewers.

If it were no big deal then why are sky making a conerted effort to poach VM TV users.

I'm sure Sky are fine financially, even with the loss of advertising revenue and the ongoing big CapEx spend they are still very much in the black.

We aren't talking about a company that employs interesting accounting practises to try and push up customer numbers and make the financials look better here

This from a channel that has so many re runs that it proudly advertises every new episode, even to the point of have an onscreen graphic saying "New Episode".

That's the problem. Sky are OK financially now, but how is the loss of potentially half the viewers of Sky one going to affect the channel when Advertisers come to renegotiate their contracts?

Presumably it'll affect it less than it would if the company was in the red

True, but it can't be good anyway.

Smile Re: Sky's New Sky One Advert

I think Sky had tried to take advantage of its position in the market place and had fully expected Virgin to pay the new costs because they thought Virgin had no choice. In the event this has backfired.

It was a stupid move because now it has disrupted the futures of both companies.

The new advertising campaign re:Law & Order is childish since a variety of channels carry older series of the program. If Sky don't manage this situation better their revenues may well affect their capacity to keep or obtain series they have had for years especially as they have just poached Prison Break from Channel 5.

It's time Sky focused solely on the benefits of their channels without the need to attack Virgin & other providers.
