Play TV?

I've just had a strange phone call from someone trying to flog me an alternative to Sky.

They said they were from PlayTV and could offer all the Sky channels in the top package for £30 a month including line rental and broadband with all the channels coming through the broadband line.

Aside from the salesperson being exceptionally pushy and not knowing a lot about it aside from it being cheaper I wondered if anyone else had received a similar call or knew what company was behind it.
I can't find any mention of them on the web and can't recall seeing anything here.

Am sure I heard of play tv before. I think it was some kind of quiz show lol probably one of them late night ones.

As for them offering all sky well I cant see that really - Maybe it was a con ? I've heard of similair ones to this before.

Nope. They went through a list of the channels they had on offer in their packs and had a big chunk of the Sky channels.
It was very strange. I'm wondering now how they got my name and knew I was a Sky customer, when I signed up for Sky I was very careful to ensure all the 'Do not share information' boxes were ticked.

Re: Play TV ??

I had a call from the same company last night - And I'm listed with the TPS so should definitely NOT have received this blatant marketing call.

I didn't listen to anything they had to say - was too busy telling them off for calling me!

Re: Play TV ??

I also recently received a call.

I questioned the bloke quite thoroughly regarding the service they were providing. It all sounded quite impressive, but unfortunately this is the only thread I've been able to find with reference to it.

He also told me £30 a month with latest movies football chanels like Man Utd and championship and league 1 coverage.

He also said they supplied a SKY + style box with HDTV for £70 as opposed to Sky's £300 or whatever it is.

It all sounded interesting but I haven't received another call and can't find their website (www.paytv.???)

Re: Play TV ??

Snap, same here. About an hour ago a young lady rang me with what seems to be an unbeatable offer. My worries are many 1/ will this service slow down my broadband internet speed? 2/ has it got anything to do with digging up my drive and laying a cable? 3/ will the price shoot up once digital TV arrives in the Welsh vales? 4/ will my current Sky supplier charge a disconnection fee? 5/ how much will it cost me to go back to Sky if I'm not happy with play.tv.com??.I managed to put her off by telling her to ring back in about 6 weeks so that I could have time to look into everything properly. I was offered a free box and a basic package for £10 a month (at present I'm paying Sky £21 ) the only cost would be £29.95 for a guy to come to my home to connect everything. It sounds to good to be true......but is there a catch??

Re: Play TV ??

I've had a call from these people and they are calling me back tomorrow. The website (if anyone is interested) is playtvuk.com

I'm not convinced that this service will be all they are trying to make it out to be. The website does not list all the Sky channels I currently subscribe to. Virgin recently lost at least one of their cabled Sky channels because they wouldn't pay Sky the asking price.

I'll be interested to know how this lot can offer Sky cheaper than Sky can!

Yep, I've had the spiel too, different prices tho'. What ever happened to privacy of information? Ultimately, if something seems too good to be true, then it is too good to be true. I think I'll wait this one out and see what happens.

Re: Play TV ??

hello hope i can answer your questions/problems..., i work for playtv and it is genuinely a good product, firstly obviously i am on commision hence the time ive taken in my own time to write this!! therefore iam confident that some of you will buy this, and from me!

Basically it comes through your telephone line similar to virgin(telewest/Ntl) and into the settop box and is converted into HD, you get all the channels you get on sky except the sky branded channels i.e sky one & sky sports insted of sky sports 1,2,3 it has sentanta sports channels (www.setanta.com).

There are three packages; movies, sport and entertainment all £10 per month each. its is a real alternative to sky and is also and im sure you will agree it is the future of how tv will be broadcast eliminating interfearence and not clogging up the airways.

If you have any questions ill check back on the forum, if you think its a load of crap your entitled to your opinion! obviously let me know your reasons and i will pass them on to my boss and get in his good books!

p.s. regarding the guy who was on the tps, i do apologies we do scan numbers against tps numbers however obviously there is a slip up there and its not acceptable! however please note depending on when you signed to the tps you may have to renew every year check www.tpsonline.org.uk and click register, all you do is type your number in and it will say if it is on it.

kind regards the teaboy

Re: Play TV ??

Well, I went looking for something on these folks after my father-in-law had a call from them and was surprised to find this in the top few threads on Google

Other than the marketing blurb from Mr PlayTV above, there isn't much definitive. This thread on AVForums makes for some interesting reading though.

Oh, and according to companies house the company only came into existence on 14th June with the website only being registered on 13th June.
