I was very surprised to see this thread "come alive" again in my reminders, I honestly thought this bunch of cowboys had been ridden out of town.

You can bet your last pound it wont be long before some "illiterate poster" comes on again telling us how many channels they now get with their super-dupa new Play-TV set-top-box. Anyway L Sainsbury don't get to comfy I'm banking on you and Brundels to resurrect your previous roles, and expose these charlatan's once again.

Re: Play TV?
basically to everyone who is slaggin playtv off, i object.
it is a good service thank you very much.
ive seen it up and running and working, it is a reliable service.
even i have it.
fair enough u dont like cold calls or anything like that but maybe once in your life someones trying to sell you something thats actually worth your while.
its good its will save you money compared to sky or virgin.
they offer the same service but its better as your not gonna get an interference in bad weather with your dish or anything, yeah it works through your broadband thats a good thing your never gonna get a bad reception.
to be honest you people can believe what you think, just because your on the TPS thats your fault because you have to have slipped up at some point and 'ticked' the wrong boxes otherwise no-one would have your data, you know that.
why don't people start listening for once.
end.

That would be ADSL wholesale retail broadband then? Not even unbundled... Sorry, but I wouldn't call that as reliable a delivery mechanism as either satellite or cable - IMO it's at risk of much more glitching and stuttering as a result of packet delays or even packet loss. Not much information on their website apart from vague pricing levels. They claim unlimited, but so do VM and we all know the restrictions from the AUP/FUP there. PlayTV don't even seem to publish an AUP or FUP.
Something they don't specify on their website is that the phone provided as part of their phone package is a VOIP phone - more specifically (judging by the picture - although they have manually blacked out the model number), the Siemens S540IP. I'm not saying use of VOIP as part of a telecoms package is a bad thing (I use VOIP as the only home phone line and if Virgin did it I'd actually look at their phone package again) but they're not exactly being honest or open about how that works - or that it may not if you have a poor ADSL line.
Just imagine - you're on the phone to great auntie Doris when your kids turn the TV on and then your phone call goes out the window. I'm not saying that's guaranteed to happen - in most cases it probably won't - but a warning would be nice.
Sorry, but it still looks suspiciously like someone promising the world and not likely being able to deliver it.
Even Craig who kept coming back after installation delays and problems never actually reported back after he had the system installed.

Didn't take to long did it? as L Sainsbury says they'll tell you how great the service is and how much we are missing out, but when it comes to fundamental questions like "how much", "what packages are available" and the like they suddenly experience "Spanish waiter syndrome".
Anyway bring it on Play TV, if you are really genuine you'll want to answer peoples questions, not duck them as in the past...I won't be holding my breath though.

They remind me of the company's that came out during the rush to provide unlimited dial up. Woolly promises and no substance to there claims .

Read the thread. I personally have no problem with the company apart from the fact that they have repeatedly promised a service to customers that they then seem to have failed to deliver. And, TBH, we only have a few random forum posts as proof they have delivered a service. Which, while I do not mean any disrespect to you or any other forum member, is not proof in my book. If someone lies on a forum, it can be difficult for other members to find that out.
As for the "never get bad reception" comment. You are more likely to get reception problems with IPTV than Cable. Cable is designed for broadcast data, but will still suffer reception problems due to equipment failure or if the satellite dishes used to receive the signals from some TV companies are blocked by bad weather (yes, even the big 3 metre dishes they use can suffer from the weather).
IPTV is likely to suffer from the same problems and has the added problem that most ISPs do not design their networks to broadcast data efficiently, so you may well get a stuttering image as one or more parts of the network overload.
You also have the problem that if your ISP uses STM or caps(as a few do, and a lot more are looking at), you'll find watching TV eats into that allowance.
Finally (and not really wanting to deviate too far from topic), you run the risk that your ISP may be using a system such as Phorm, so they may be able to find out exactly what you are watching. You may not be able to opt out either, as the set top box may not support the cookies necessary.

Attitude apart, you are wrong in one way. Companies can still try and sell you stuff, and your data is still available even if you haven't opted to have your data shared.
Believe me, I have had multiple phone calls from Talk Talk trying to sell me their crap broadband service because I happen to use their Telephone service, despite the fact I was very careful to ensure that the form I filled out said I did not want to be contacted. Of course, they disguise the sales call as a query as to whether you are happy with your service.

So just like Play TV they advertise something and then fail to deliver and fail to respond to a request for information .
Par for the course where Play TV are concerned

Re: Play TV?
This is beautiful.
While I believe that IPTV has a future (as a replacement for the system that VM currently employ IE on a closed network) attempting to deploy it over a bundled line with no additional QOS is a recipe for disaster.
And as other people have said, another illiterate poster pops up to defend Play and then beggars off again. Any pictures of the box you received in situ?
Thought not.

Re: Play TV?
oh atlast im back here!
i have to repeat this again, but i don't honestly understand how you people can say stuff like this about a product you've never seen before?
fair enough you've never heard of us before..but what about other companies? they started out small, they didn't just automatically have thousands of customers when they started?
i do work for playtv, i wouldn't work for them if i thought it was dodgy and the product was crap.
right so the product, its kinda already been said by teaboy to be honest, but at work i usually am just selling the phone and broadband not so much the playtv.
phone and bb, not being funny but free calls to all uk landlines, 36 international destinations, no time limits, 60% discount to mobiles and premium numbers, vat and line rental included in the price, 2 meg bb no download limits..£19.99...does not that sound good? ive sold it to plenty of people..and oh no complaints.
had a little laugh today actually some guy on the phone said he'd looked at these forums and decided not to buy the product. apparantly according to him all other big companies don't get slated in forums like this?
B*******
i've spoken to plenty of people on the phones who slag them off because they're so expensive and the service is crap.
then to stop them from leaving they refuse to give you your mac code or discount your monthly payment, then without telling you put it back on and pretend they never did it in the first place, hmmm good one...
Looking forward to coming back to see what people say next

Re: Play TV?
@Emily Strange, nobody is trying to purposely have a pop at PlayTV just for the fun of it emily, if you were to read through this thread you'll see why the people here are sceptical concerning PlayTV.
Start up days that never materialise, customers kept in the dark, endless false claims of great channels and free block buster films by people who have openly admitted to be affiliated to PlayTV, and countless other misleading claims.
As I said emily read through and then tell me we still have PlayTV wrong.
