I haven't got the technical knowledge of IPTV to know whether what they are offering is possible, feasible or realistic.
What put me off was :
1) I couldn't find out much about them,
|
True, as I said earlier, any new company going up against the established companies (Virgin Media, Homechoice/Tiscali and Sky) would need as much publicity as possible, and would need to be advertising what programmes they have as much as possible. Play TV don't even seem to have a list on their website.

2) He couldn't give me an acutal go live data - he was talking about January & when I asked him for an actual date he had to ask his supervisor & then said 1st Jan.
|
Odd. When any new system is launched, there will be problems. This, sadly, is a fact of life. On New Years Day, most companies will have a minimum number of staff working, so I doubt any company would start a service on that day.
I know that this is the reason that Virgin Media don't generally have major upgrades in December, and the early part of January.

3) The price he quoted changed during the conversation. He started off saying it was £25 a month for BB, entertainment package & sports package. After checking with his supervisor (again!!!) it suddenly became £45.99 (including phone). No longer the bargain he was initially pushing.
|
Possibly a mistake, but also odd.

4) Most importantly I want to see something before signing up to it!
After spending an hour reading this thread I'm very glad I said no. I'm a freelance web developer so having reliable BB is critical to me so this just seemed too risky to me. The sales guy said twice . To me that shows the sort of unprofessional people they are employing.
If it does take off then great & I may re-consider but I think I'm going to get BT Vision. What I ultimately want is to pay for the games that I actually want to watch. I'm sick of spending £43 per month with Sky & then watching one game a month.
|
BT Vision is apparently good, if you get good freeview reception. Can't say I have seen it myself (well, not the on-demand stuff anyhow). It's always good to see if you can watch something on a DTV platform first though.

Re: Play TV?
Bump! So - what's going on with PlayTV then? Still dead in the water or have some people had the PlayTV box installed?

Re: Play TV?
On the radio this morning (BBC Radio Berkshire), the breakfast programme presenter Andrew Peach interviewed some guy from Trading Standards about something.
After the interview about the main subject, the presenter asked what the current "hot potato" was and the Trading Standards guy said they were looking into scam issues with a company that kept offering warranty on digital boxes for a large satellite broadcasting company.
No names were mentioned, but you can guess who they were!

mmmm - jam tomorrow.
Are you still paying the full price for the reduced service?
Partially trained staff (even though the boxes were delayed), and less than the full package promised - I've (still) got a bad feeling about this; hopefully, I'll be proved wrong.

Re: Play TV?
newbie here. I googled play tv a couple of nights ago and found a link to this site.
lol at this thread.
I had never heard of this service and was searching for a service from sony with the same name.
I got rather confused as sony is lauching a PVR service for ps3 also called play tv.
I found it odd when I went to the play tv site and saw no metion of sony and the lack of info and to put it politely, an unatractive channel line up.
heres a link for sony play tv
http://www.scee.presscentre.com/Cont...ReleaseID=4413
I think its quite unusual that two companies could name very similar products the exact same name, and nobody notices???
btw good luck craig, your a more patient man than I could ever be.

I get the feeling some of these people don't even live in the UK.

Re: Play TV?
I was thinking about this the other day wondering whether they'd died a death yet or if had all just gone quiet.

In all fairness, there is one major difference. Sony do have a product called Play TV, and we have evidence it exists. Play TV have shown nothing other than a website that makes some vague promises, and some people to post about how great their (apparently non-existant) service is. Usually these people have some odd quirks (such as Craig quoting whoever posted immediately above him, regardless of whether it has any relevance to his post or not) and bad spelling.
