I'm not going to hark on or pretend to be the spelling police - but you could sure use a spell checker.

Re: Play TV?
Hi all,
Had a phone call this morning and found this site via google.
Have read the first 5 pages of this forum and thought I might as well ask some questions.
The lady who called seemed to infer that I would get the same package I get with sky for a cheaper price. As I get the full monty from sky including all the sports and movie channels I thought it may be worth thinking about. She said that Setanta sports was also included free of charge.
From reading this forum, it would seem that sky sports 1 and 2 and the movie channels are not included. Is this correct??
Basically she knew I was a Sky subscriber and she asked if I had broadband to which I replied that I had. I didn't say that my broadband and telephone were through Virgin Media, originally Telewest.
She said that the service would be connected to my modem, and as we have multiroom through Sky, the engineers would connect the televisions in the lounge and bedroom, there being a cost for the set top box in the lounge ( I think it was £69) to replace my Sky+, and a free set top box to replace the one in the bedroom.
So do they run cables from the computer room to the lounge and bedroom through the house or round the outside?? I don't want unsightly cables all over the place. I don't suppose the connections could be wireless?

Lack of information is the hallmark of Play TV's operation so far. I don't think anyone here could answer your question about cabling and frankly I would be surprised if anyone at Play TV could either.
If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say their service is user-installed in any case, so any cabling required would go wherever you wanted to put it.
But as others have already said, I would re-read this entire thread very carefully if I were you, before deciding whether to sign up with them.

Re: Play TV?
Based on what little information they provide on their website and the contents of this thread...

It's worse than that - you will not get ANY Sky branded channels so if you left VM TV for Sky on the basis of Sky One don't expect to see it with Play TV (if indeed you see anything with them).

If your broadband is with VM then check what package you're on. The channels not delivered via freeview will chew their way through bandwidth at a reasonable rate if delivered at an adequate bandwidth for a good quality picture. This of course gets worse if you start using multi-room setups. If you thought STM was annoying now, imagine what it would do when trying to watch IPTV and having STM kick in...

Typically wireless isn't recommended for streaming because of it's inherent instabilities and problems with interference. Their website talks about using homeplug as the solution - given the cost of homeplug I'll be surprised if they throw that in free of charge. TBH I can't help but feel they use that to avoid having to worry about wiring a house (and the associated insurance/training).
As LSainsbury has said - I think you might want to take a read of the whole thread.
Out of curiosity, I don't suppose they gave you a go live date or any idea of what install date they would promise you?

I left Telewest for football first on Sky.

I told her I'd think about it (hence this research) and she's ringing back Thursday am.

Re: Play TV?
Hey Arkwright23 - no problem - homeplug is basically using your mains electric sockets as the wires to transport the network around your house!
Have a look at this: http://www.homeplug.org/home
Might answer some questions!

Re: Play TV?
I believe it uses the electrical wiring round your home to share the broadband signal. You plug a widget in to a socket wherever you want to have broadband, such as next to your PC and, if you subscribe to Play TV, next to their set-top-box by your telly.

Thanks for the quick reply which raises more questions and probably going off topic, but looking here: http://www.netgear.com/Products/Powe...ers/XE102.aspx
and the diagram shown, I would need 2 wall plugs and a router. What is the router for, and is 14 Mpbs wired speed good, and would the modem performance be impaired. Also what type of wiring would be required for the various connections?? For example when connecting a laptop in another room.

Re: Play TV?
14Mbps is fine depending on what you're using it for. There have been indications that the STB would use anything from half a meg upwards on what little information we have from them so that is fine. There are faster versions but they get signficantly more expensive.
Provided you just connect a port on the router to the Homeplug then and the other Homeplug to the STB it shouldn't affect anything else you're doing. Assuming you buy a wireless router then you can use the laptop wirelessly on it. If it's not a wireless laptop/router then standard RJ45 cabling will do the job.
