I've been toying with the idea of changing to Sky.

This weekend VM pushed me towards it even further. VM dont have Setanta Ireland so i cant watch live NASCAR. As a result i watch it on a laptop using TVU player streaming it live. Yesterday i got traffic shapped with about 20 mins of the race left and as a result the video cut out so often you couldnt watch it so i missed the end ofthe race. Then i get home tonight and my return path on my STB is failing AGAIN.

Sooo cue Sky, i phoned them up, went through the new customer route and guess what, was on hold for 20 mins to be told that the flyr they sent me through the post, which arrived AFTER the offer expired of a free SKY+ box wouldnt be honoured even though it was sent out too late. How can any company that is so slow answering a sales line expect to sell anything

What service are you on? I'd have thought even a shaped service would be sufficient for the majority of live streams?

4Mb, last nights NASCAR race have been on for 3 hours before the shaping kicked in

i had also downloaded Msoft updates to get a new XP drive up to date but im not sure what time it was when i did that

If I'm correct that means that your bandwidth after shaping is roughly 4 times the size of size of the stream. I'd have thought that should be sufficient.

Im lead to understand that the download can get throttled through lack of upload speed

It gets even worse when you join but the papers (mostly murdoch owned) miss the fact that the average time waiting to get through to Sky at peak times is 25 minutes........on an 0870 number and their call centres are just as clueless as VMs if not more so.
