Sky Anytime secures 'on demand' rights for Sky One shows
This should be the killer blow for Virgin 1
Quote:
For the first time ever in the UK, Sky will bring together all six seasons of the multiple award winning real-time drama 24 on its online download service, Sky Anytime on PC.
Sky has also secured on demand rights for a number of popular Sky One shows including current favourites Prison Break (Seasons 1 and 2), Bones (Seasons 1 and 2), Standoff (Season 1), and catalogue titles including Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season 1 and 2).
Griffin Parry, Director, On-Demand, BSkyB commented: "We are delighted to further extend the wealth of content now available to Sky customers through Anytime on PC. No other broadband video download service offers so much fresh, blockbuster entertainment, movies and sport."
"We know that our customers want to access Sky content at a time and a screen of their choosing, and Anytime on PC offers a key element of our mulit-platform, on-demand offer. Whether it's 24, Lost, the Premiership, Test Cricket, Miami Vice or Borat, Sky customers enjoy access to the broadest range of online, on demand content."

Re: Sky Anytime secures 'on demand' rights for Sky One shows
Who is suprised by this?
Notice that every single TV Series quoted there is """SHOCKER""" owned by 20th Century Fox, Who is Owned by News Corp. who is Owned by Rupert Murdoch, who Owns BSkyB, Who Owns Sky TV!
So long, and so complicated---NOT! lol
Its just the same as seeing all the Bravo and Living shows On Virgin on Demand... so whats the difference, and what is the killer blow?
At the end of the day, Sky has only just introduced their ANYTIME TV, which is gonna be full of Sky shows... they have yet to sign deals with the BBC and so on, as well as stuff like CSI and Nip/Tuck etc.
Virgin were NEVER going to get prison Break because its 20th Century Fox... it would be like getting Sky One on Demand on Virgin... no chance!
If you signed up to Virgin waiting for Prison Break to be On Demand, then you made the wrong move there! lol
VIRGIN 1 has nothing to do with Buffy and all that crap.
Its signing its own High Budget shows, with other suppliers, namely Warner Brothers (probably the only company who are up there with Fox).

Downloading TV shows onto your PC is a killer blow for a TV channel? Hardly.

Re: Sky Anytime secures 'on demand' rights for Sky One shows
I think it should be noted that Sky will probably never get BBC stuff on Demand "Anytime" whatever the F**K you wanna call it, due to the fact that Rupert Murdoch hates the BBC!
Now THATS a killer blow for ANytime, I would think!

Re: Sky Anytime secures 'on demand' rights for Sky One shows
Whoopee doo....
Whats Anytime gonna do thats gonna be the killer blow for Virgin 1?
TBH Sky Anytime is Sky thinking oh no Virgin have an on demand service and it may hit us, so we better rush something out fast to combat it!
Strange that Virgin have the rights for VOD for Lost, thats a program thats shown on Sky isnt it? So i guess its not exclusive rights, so imho not a problem for Virgin One, as they will probably be getting NEW programs that Sky DONT have.
If you think Sky are so good run off to them, me, im sticking with Virgin, because even with the problems they are having it works out a hell of a lot cheaper than Sky, and ya dont need one of those ugly dustbin lids on the side of yer house, that gets interference when it rains!

Re: Sky Anytime secures 'on demand' rights for Sky One shows
Lost isnt a Fox owned show. Thats why.
They are an ABC show, owned by the Walt Disney Company.
The Walt Disney Company will want as much Distribution of the product as possible, as the Revenue from the Show will rise and rise, and in most contracts these days, there is an on-demand clause. Sky didnt take this clause, becuase they didnt have a service to provide it to.
Virgin Media have signed this clause in a seperate contract, thus making Walt Disney Co. a load of money, and tieing up the contract fully in the UK.
Maybe there are rerun rights for channel 4, maybe there arent, but the fact that this show isnt a FOX/News Corp. (Murdoch) company means that Virgin have every chance of succeeding in winning the contract, which they have.
I am actually quite supprised that Living Aquired the X Files, as that is a Fox show, but as seen as its been dead for about 6 years, they are probably trying to grab more money out of the product (even though it is still shown on FX (another Fox/News Corp. owned channel).
I think it is probable that the FX Channel is stopping showing the X Files and Living has picked up that contract.
It basically means, to me, that the majority of shows owned by Fox will appear on Sky and Sky Branded shows, and the odd one will filter through to a competitor... (X Files and Miss Match)
I believe X Files was brought in to entice more male viewers, as it was originally a Female targetted channel (s). That is why the TV and "Girly" colours and stuff were removied this year...

Re: Sky Anytime secures 'on demand' rights for Sky One shows
Waste of a thread IMO.
So Sky customers can watch 24 on their PC? Big deal, I can watch Days 1 to 5 on my 32" telly right now, with Day 6 out on DVD soon.

How can you say that? Most of the programmes listed are made by 20th Century Fox, so I'd be suprised if Sky didn't do this.
