Thumbs down Have Any Of You Been Double Charged By Sky?

Any of you been double charged by Sky?

I got a multiroom subscription in August 2006 and they have continued billing me for the second subscription I had before that and now owe me £392.30! I've had letters from them saying they won't pay - they claim they were never informed that I wanted to cancel the second account but the guy on the phone who set up the multiroom subscription told me the second account would be cancelled. In the meantime, they have also pulled the stroke of "we have to send an engineer to check that your second box is on the premises because you're not hooked up to the phone line", "oh yes I am", "oh no you're not"...

If they won't repay me what they owe me, I will be taking them to small claims court. However, if there are others out there like me that they've ripped off in this manner, we could have a class action suit.

So, do let me know if this has happened to you!

I take it everyone is paying by direct debit? That seems to be the main problem.

Re: Have Any Of You Been Double Charged By Sky?

They incorrectly charged me once - when I signed-up they offered me the full package with sports and movies at ½-price for 3 months, but I said I only wanted the family package. After the first day, I noticed I had access to films and sports so I gave them a call and they admitted an error had occurred and I was being charged for the full package. To cut a long story short they fixed it immediately and as a gesture of goodwill they gave me access to films and sports for free for the remainder of the 3 month period.

Bear in mind that this happened immediately after I had switched from NTL because they were incorrectly billing me for all services at 2 addresses (I foolishly made the mistake of moving house ) for over a year... and then disconnected the wrong address They didn't once offer any compensation or goodwill gestures.

So, as you can see, all companies are capable of making mistakes... what matters to me is that they admit it and how they rectify it.

I have been paying by DD for the past 2 years, no payment issues.
To the original poster, there is a means to check that your box is connected besides the obvious, it is by means of the set up menu, something along the lines of " system set up " >>> " system test "
This should then display on your screen " telephone connected "
There is no need for a class action case as you put it, if you feel you have been ripped off you are quite within your rights to take the case up through your local county court who will help with the paperwork, you will have to pay the admin fee but this will be payable back by sky if push came to shove.
I would start by sending a letter recorded delivery so someone has to acknowledge receipt and give them 7 days to rectify your grievance, stating that after this time you will be filing the papers with your local county court, experience usually tends to be that they will settle out of court.
Hope its sorted for you
