my SKY retentions 'deal'

Just rang sky to cancel today - I have SKY+ and the regular channels but no movies or sports. told them I was cancelling as it was costing me £28 a month but I dont watch the sky channels so I'm getting Freeview with a PVR built in.

They offered to drop their channels and the subscription cost but carry on the £10 a month sky+ charge which means I will have the free to air channels plus the SKY+ capability.

over a year that's £120 compared to going out and buying a freeview box with PVR for around £100-£200.

so I went for it - £10 a month is just about acceptable for now. if the sky box blows up then I'll go out and get a freeview one.

My dad's friend was talking about the same deal. He just has the freeview channels on his Sky+ box too.

Re: my SKY retentions 'deal'

I actually think it's worth £5 a month max for what I'm getting but it's easier than organising a freeview box etc.
