Question Sky+ and Freesat box - techie'ish

I'm getting my Sky+ box installed tomorrow and shall be taking the old box upstairs.
At the moment I have an ariel via a splitter going from the current box to my bedroom tv, so we can watch whatever is being viewed on Sky downstairs in the bedroom.
When I move the old box upstairs I will want to use it as a freeview box whilst watching the new box downstairs. I can't split the cable in the same way and go through the old box upstairs can I?
Do I need two cables coming from the dish or is there a way around it?

I think as well you would need an extra LNB for the extra receiver...

Re: Sky+ and Freeview box - techie'ish

He's just arrived and I asked him to leave the single feed for the old box when it goes in the bedroom.
Unfortunately, he will use my current card in the new box, so the old one won't have a card.
Presumably it will need one, even to view just the freeview channels.
Can they be bought separately?
Also, we have an ariel feed going to the bedroom tv so we could watch same channel sky in the bedroom, will I still be able to do this if I'm not able to get the other box going for a while?

It's ok, just connected the box in the bedroom and it's fine. Just need to tidy up the wiring as it's coming through the bedroom window at the moment!

you may need a freesat card to pickup some of the channels that are Free but are encypted.

can't remember what they are off the top of my head tho, i think ch5 might be one of them.

http://www.freesatfromsky.com/?pID=6

phone the number on the site and ask for the freesat card it costs £20 according to the faq page.

Should be a one off payment.
