Actually, isn't it something like £160 by 2012, or thereabouts?

Don't really think this thread is in the correct location - it's nothing really to do with the V+ service, is it?

And Pass it on People Please,
Don't hold your breath on this one. A similar one was done last month, and received a response from No10.

Quote:
The Government recognises that HD is one of many applications that could utilise spectrum released by Digital Switchover.

Like Ofcom, the Government believes that technology-neutral auctions offer the most effective way of allocating spectrum. However, we also accept Ofcom's view that some applications generate benefits for society, and that it is vital that these benefits continue to be captured in a world where spectrum if a flexible, market-based resource.

Spectrum management is now a matter for Ofcom, the independent regulator of the communications sector. On 19 December, Ofcom issued a consultation document on the Digital Dividend Review (which is concerned with the allocation of spectrum released by Digital Switchover). The consultation ends on 20 March 2007 and the Government looks forward to the developing debate the consultation has generated.

Re: Sign a petition for HD TV on Freeview

Spectrum management is a matter for Ofcom ... yeah, right. And I'm sure there will be no pressure whatsoever from the Treasury to allocate as much of it as possible for auction in the hope of generating the same kinds of billions the 3G operators splashed out.

I only hope someone in Ofcom is far-sighted enough to realise that Freeview-HD is the logical successor to the current system, and like the current system, needs to be designed and promoted as a FREE platform, not as a closed proprietory standard, which is what $ky is essentially trying to make it.
