Freeview STB or reception problem?

Hello

The recent NTL-Sky shennanigans has made me look again at getting Freeview. I've borrowed an Alba STX3B box off my dad and can receive all the channels (even the ones that Freeview website says I won't be able to get). Signal strength is around the 70% mark and Signal Quality around 60% - I'm a long way from the nearest transmitter.

Everything seems fine except the picture quality can be poor eg vertical scrolling and "wobbly stretch" across the top part of the screen. By my reckoning this isn't going to be a reception problem but a problem between the STB and the TV. There's no "blocking" of the picture and no sound drop outs or anything like that that would suggest a problem on the digital side.

Does anyone concur with my diagnosis? I'm quite happy to buy a more expensive STB for myself if the problem is with the cheapy Alba just not outputting a stable picture.

Yep, if there was a signal problem on the digital side then it'd be a blocky/loss of picture and/or bad sound. Your problem sounds like a problem with the box//cable/tv/sockets

Re: Freeview STB or reception problem?

Thanks for the response. I'll try replacing the Scart lead for starters and see what that achieves.
