Something big is on the cards....

FROM SKYUSER [NewsReader]
Quote:
A few weeks ago we stated that we had been told that Sky were going to pull the Sky+ Subscription. We were under the impression that this was to happen on 12th February 2007.

However we all know about the Virgin Media battle, from this our only conclusion is that this plan was not rolled out and was put on hold.

It now transpires that Sky have something up their sleeve and are about to launch some cracking deals, we should hopefully learn of these plans within the next 2 weeks or so.

If we think logically, Virgin Media are at their most vulnerable at the moment, and VM may have underestimated the power of Sky One to their customers.

Sky One has some of the best programming content available to any TV Channel operator and so to make it worthwhile for Sky to go to these lengths, means something is been planned to hurt Virgin Media even further.

What would Sky do?

If it was me in charge, I would now want to poach as many customers off Virgin Media as possible, and now is the best time to do so.

Sky have already reported huge numbers signing up to their Switch Package and they really need to turn up the heat asap. We have heard several reports that something is going down, unfortunately no-one will confirm the details.... Yet!
Wonder what it will be! NewsReader does have some good contacts, so I do see the news as NOT A RUMOUR!

I'm all for competition, but this all seems to be getting a little out of hand. Its almost like the my dad is bigger than your dad playground arguments!

In the end I can see no-one but consumers loosing out...having to keep switching providers to get the content you want to watch is not really ideal now is it...not when all these companies are pushing the ability to watch what you want when you want!?

Re: Something big is on the cards....

And the current fall in viewing figures - down from 1.7% on week ending 18th Feb to 1.4% for the week ending 25th Feb (the week prior to the channels being pulled so there will be a further drop the next week) all means that Sky is going to have to do something, or take a massive drop in revenue.

Correct.

Sky One is not on, & has never been on, Freeview.

Sky Three, however, is currently on Freeview... unless/until OFCOM decide to let Sky pull it, Sky News & Sky Sports News, and replace them with 4 new pay-TV channels using MPEG4 Part 10.
