do they even realise you are under your 12 months or is it a hit and miss?

IF you have a valid reason I'm sure they will listen, judging by your post tho, your just looking for an early get out. Yes they will know exactly what term you have left with them, no, it's not hit and miss :d

Sky will not just cancel a contract without you paying the remainder of the term, just like mobile phone companies etc...

Regardless of what excuse you come up with, my advice to you is to drop to the cheapest package which is currently the 2 mixes at £15 per month then all you need to pay to get out is the £15 x how many months left on your contract!

You're only 4 months in so they will most definately need a VERY good excuse to even think about letting you go without paying out the contract period.
