Getting a job as a BT contractor/tech

Hi there

I have been reading the contractor thread for ages, but finally decided to sign up and post. Im currently a data and telecomms engineer, but want to get out. We do alot of work for Openreach on the business side, and its none of the companies that have been mentioned before, and we get one job a day! Anyway, what has happened to Openreach recruitment? They haven't had any jobs advertised on their site for ages. Or, what agencies supply workers? I would rather work on business, but not fussed.

Thanks in advance guys

Jamie

Welcome to the forum. As this thread is nothing to do with VM I've moved it to a more relevant forum

I don't think there is a lot at the moment. The new agency rules have killed the contractor side of the job. The pay to contractors almost doubled and there was no way Openreach would pay that. There was a lot of llu work last year but I think it's all BT staff doing that now. Openreach sucks now, with the trackers and management. Good managers are hard to find there and they are all watching their backs. Stick where you are!

LOL @ Sweaty. I have a different opinion due to my Brother inlaw being a manager at openreach.

If you're willing to WORK its a great job but the managers are definitely on top now more than they were. The old days are gone and if you're a bit work shy and think Openreach or BT are an easy number then those days are long gone.

Its a good wage for...........wait for it................. A GOOD DAYS WORK.

The things is I'm not even in it for the money, it's something i have wanted to do for god knows long, even before I knew what they was paid. My current job now I work my **** off to be honest, I'm not scared of hard work. Just annoys me when we work with some of their engineers who are bone idle and lazy, and I would be willing to get there and work hard, and I know I can do a lot of their job cos I do it at the moment!

So their is no agencies for openreach now then?

Thanks a lot for your replies guys!

Hays are the main agency BT deal with for Engineers either field based or exchange. Try their website.
I don't think the majority of the engineers are lazy but they have been working to a method that was acceptable 10/15 years ago.Get your 3/4 jobs done a day and the manager was happy. Now they can't do that and they tend to work the system. However, if I had the chance to return I would be back like a shot (but not as a contractor).... Even with the changes the security and support the job gives you is hard to replicate anywhere else.
