Talktalk and Belkin router - no connection

I'll try and be as brief as possible. A friend of mine has been on Talktalk for the last couple of years or so.

When he signed up they sent him a wired modem but he wanted wireless so they recommended a Belkin router from Carphone warehouse.

That was all working fine up until last week. He called them and they told him his two year contract was up and so they had disconnected how broadband!! Yet they were charging him and his talktalk phone service was still working.

They sorted things out on the phone and sent him a new D-link wireless router. But his P.C really struggles to connect to it wirelessly despite it having a strong signal. And when it does connect he gets a pitiful 0.25meg from it - apparently TT's lowest broadband speed, which is supposed to improve, but hasn't.

I decided to just hook his old Belkin back up and make sure the password and username were correct. All the old settings were saved, but it simply won't connect to the net. No idea why.

I can't help thinking I'm missing something stupidly obvious on his Belkin. But considering it still had all his settings saved, and we are using the correct username and password, I'm at a loss as to what it might be. Thanks

Re: Talktalk and Belkin router - no connection

To rule out the wirless settings on the router you really need to do the setup and speed testing stuff using a wired connection.

All sorts of things might have changed, or been messed up with the ADSL. You'll need to poke around in the D-Link's settings for things other than justy the connection name and password. Things like MTU could also have changed, but really Talk Talk should have a web site showing the standard settings for generic modems.

Re: Talktalk and Belkin router - no connection

Appreciate the replies

I've been through all those settings on that page linked above. I even spoke to someone at Talktalk who went through the settings again to verify them. But the Belkin is having none of it anymore (for what it's worth, the settings were all set as they should be anyway)

I'll need to source a decent length cable to connect it wired sadly - otherwise I'd have tried wired to see how he went. Having said that he hasn't hassled me the last couple of days so maybe Talktalks reset of his connection has now taken effect *fingers crossed*
