Sky is good/bad...Virgin is good/bad
They are companies..not worth love or hate
As to thread...I will wait and see what Sky offers...but if BT comes to my area first, I might end up trying them..1 year of my life and money I am always willing to risk..What I want is choice..so that if one doesn't give me what I want..I have an alternative. My money loves no one..not even me

Lot of added costs on top, it seems.
Need sky TV and sky talk, plus the £20 a month for the fibre product itself, which with a 2mb upload, seems somewhat inferior to BT and virgin's offerings.

Although you need Sky TV, needing Sky Line Rental isn't an additional cost, given that you'd need BT line rental with BT Infinity.
As for Sky Talk... there's a free one. You don't need to pay for Sky Talk.
BT's "unlimited" fibre service costs £26... and although it does have a higher upload than Sky's fibre service, it is subject to traffic management when using P2P at peak time. Sky? No limits, no traffic management, no FUP...
EDIT: As for Virgin... Isn't that only cheaper if you have a VM phone line? Plus, of course, it's also subject to STM...

Still can't understand why they're only offering upto 40mb with a paltry 2mb upload.
5 years ago that might've been a really good deal, but these days? eh
I guess I'm surprised, given that they promote their unlimited broadband package as having no limits/traffic management etc, but they're bringing out a rather poor offering when it comes to fibre speed.

Surely that is the reason why. By that I mean they've worked what speeds they can do and keep it as 'unlimited'

As per the new advertising regulations, it has to be what is actually acheiveable
So after ADSL overheads '40Mbit' is no more than 38Mbit
If you notice, Sky have currently removed any reference to speed for their current products

i understand, but they put a cap on at 40Mb even if the line supported 150Mb i was saying can they not put a cap on at lets say 50Mb or 60Mb

Not quite. The ATM overheads on ADSL do not apply to VDSL. The 38mb limit comes from BT's IP profile which is a traffic shaper that caps you to 38.72mbps, allowing additional capacity on the line to avoid congestion, loss, and for management traffic. Sky's 40mbps service could conceivably achieve 39.99.
Also, I imagine the "Up to 38mb" won't stay that way forever. BT can adjust their line rate limit (currently set to an arbitrary 39.998mbps) in the same way VM have done (e.g. 33.3mb on the 30mb service), but unlike VM it requires co-ordinating at many levels with many different providers.
The whole 38mb business is as marketing bodge, not a technical limitation.
