it is a load of rubbish.. You did good to shut the door in their face!
I applied for a job and it turned out that we where going around knocking on ppls doors for talktalk the exact same as you describe and what a crappy thing... I walked off and refused to do such a job.. they basically get commision I think like £10 for each customer but if VM is good for you then dont go to adsl, talk talk is like that plusnet isp..
so rubbish.. they dont actually work for talk talk its like they go around trying to get people to join them and if they are with them change package and collect money from the isp...
it was so funny I was with this american guy and we both thought it was going to be an office job and some of the crap they come up with... we just sat there laughing behind this guys back who was claiming to make 40 thousand a year from the job and he could not even afford a good suite and the brown one he wore had crap on the back of it.. or some kind of stain and he was acting like a bum...
but it is legit.. they call the isp and take comission...

It's amazing how many people turn it down because they think it is a scam, I guess the trend of misleading marketing that operators employ make it difficult to believe they are sometimes genuine.

its not a scam but adsl sucks and if you have vm then I would never use adsl.. well in some peoples cases adsl is the way to go but if you say yes to them once you have these idiots harassing your street for months on end to get money from the isp... not a scam but it is annoying.
hats off to the people who do the job on their feet all day..seems like an easy job but its tiering and a 24/7 job
